Yes they use stolen characters to send out tells about the raffle, as it looks more legit coming from a "real" player rather than an obvious bot at level 1 fresh off the opening cutscene.Hello Rayne,
I actually don't need gil, I just clicked the link out of boredom. The odd thing is, my FC mates followed my character and all it did was hop servers and sit near the aetheryte. It's now logged off and I'm not sure what's going on. I've received one email from SE support so far, but it hasn't been resolved yet due to the one-time password issue.
I hope you get your gil back and I hope they can ban the scammers.

Fresh off the opening cutscene with a name that's twelve characters long but only has one vowel.
give me money to buy drip
Those damned 300m gil raffle. Those bots kept telling me I’ve won them, and here I wonder where have all of my luck gone to… no wonder I hardly roll above 15 on anything that I wanted!
On serious note, I hope you get your hard-earned money back.
Okay so I had a FC member fall for this. I locked down her characters so they couldn't get anything out of our Free Company chest. SE has responded that her account was banned for RM trading/shouting in game. She was already able to change her password but on the help desk ticket they said in order to get her account re instated they want a copy of her government issues ID. Assuming they want to verify that she is the accounts original owner but is this something they WOULD normally ask for. the email has her help desk ticket number on it but has anyone else had to do this ?
I had to in order to change my name on my account with a copy of my marriage certificate, so yes. If they didn't do that now, anyone could report an account as compromised and just go "QQ my account was hacked by this person, please give it back to me!" while the actual owner of the account gets locked out of their account.Okay so I had a FC member fall for this. As long as the email is coming from official SE channels (something like support@square-enix.com or something, my official "you paid for your monthly sub" emails come from autoinfo_us@account.square-enix.com) then it is safe to trust. If your friend is wary, they can likely open up a chat support from the support website/call support and get an email address confirmation to be 100% sure.
20 is my number

Well it's March 2023 and they are still doing this. I wasn't aware of it and seem to have been a target. Sent email to support but after reading these posts looks like i'm screwed.
No offense, but they keep doing it because it keeps working. SE has posted notifications about it. The community has posted warnings constantly, for years.
