New hrothgar hairstyles are really bad.

I don't buy the clipping excuse to be honest. A certain Spoiler character's hair clipped through every single major cutscene that had her in it. My hair clips through the majority of collars and scarfs in the game. Long cloaks clip through my legs.

All I wanted was to be able to change my hairstyle without having to pay $10 each time and to get more hairstyle options.

Our character appearances are a collection of properties, shape, size, color, pattern, etc. They can only support so many (eg. Hyur get a slider that adjusts from ripped to flabby, while Miqo'te get tail length and style) If this isn't a sick April Fools' day joke then it smells like they're subverting the ear settings to implement the hair options because they have no more room to add new appearance properties. But that begs the question: If that's the case then why not add default ears and just fess up that this is the tradeoff?

The only thing I can think of that would make this whole mess excusable is that this is a stopgap until revamp the entire appearance system. They've sorta-kinda hinted at that but it's all been very vague. What gets me is that flubbing this is so out of character for the FFXIV team.

2-3% of players use Hrothgar but that is (or was lol) a dedicated niche that settled on their character in hoping for a better implement after the devs stated such. Even the devs mentioned(march live letter) how things such as player count or 'wasting' resources towards specific races mean little since the player race, chosen or not, is now transformative content in the world and that's the reward for adding it. This game's community and developers created a psuedo-parasocial relationship towards the brand, a certain level of loyalty or disdain. Now, set on high in a microwave on a roughly 3ish year timer only for it to come out burnt...

Trust is questioned, amplifying tension towards people's faith/disdain in a brand who stood by or were aware of it for so long. I'm mostly one of the former. I adore Hrothgar. I played Highlander since ARR beta on ps3. Till SB, I never knew I wanted a playable beast race. And as someone studying marketing, most people don't know what they really want until they get it and that is a POWERFUL way to gain brand loyalty. And Japan, culturally thrives on marketing loyalty towards its consumers through niche audiences. Targeting fans of playable beast races is a worthwhile attempt IF done effectively.

Playing as a new race in a mmo can be near transformative in one's appreciation for the world and how one interacts with it. That is why despite most people choosing a "human", most games be it tabletop or digital still seek to deliver variety and that usually comes down to playable races or glamor. After the success of Zootopia in Japan which pushed for more furry content like Grimoire, BNA or Beastars in the country. I would not be surprised if that was one of the reasons(WoW, Eso and Guild Wars 2 as well) why YoshiP pushed for inclusion of bestial races even if just one could get added into the game.

But adding something means little without actual support in the long run. And the support they delivered has been scraped from the bottom of the barrel. People outside this community have more ammo to fire towards this game's questionable quality of implementing character customization. This shows we don't need a graphic update, we need an engine update. Modern engines don't require one to manually place/map thousands of gear onto rigs/models unlike this Crystal Tools/Luminous Engine Frankensteined monstrosity. They cant hire more staff for the game because of this complex limitation. Hopefully, YoshiP can bring new talent hired from FFXVI to XIV.

Overall, I appreciate that Hrothgar was implemented in the first place. Having the chance to play as someone I didn't know I wanted to be. I probably wouldn't have met my girlfriend in game if Hrothgar wasn't added. I don't feel ANGRY towards YoshiP and the team. But this situation has made me recontexualize my relationship towards the game and its devs while I still play and enjoy xiv with my GF. Now, me and her are simply disappointed.

I do not play Hrothgar, but even I think those were very very bad looking and felt disappointed by them. Every Hroth I knew fell to their knees in agony when they saw those hairstyles. While their initial reactions were funny, the situation after the moment passes is not!! Hroths deserve to be happy and love how their characters look too. Every time the rest of us get hairstyles, Hroth are left out the most. Let's be nicer to Hroth players please. They are generally very nice people. In 2 years, I have never met even ONE rude Hrothgar. Let's give them something cool!! They're lions and stuff, right? Something majestic and unique for them!! and if you can't do that, then please stop making them have to use a fantasia to change their hairstyle. That's not fair to them at all. It has been long enough, punishing them for choosing to play something that's not as common.

Please revisit the Hrothgar hairstyles. Hroth friends are important too!!

I'm so tired of Hrothgars getting the short end of the stick when every other race has gotten far better treatment. I'm not really a fan of the hairstyles except maybe Snow's hairstyle from FF13 and if that was all I wouldn't make this forum post but THEY REMOVED OUR EARS FOR THESE!!

Its like seeing an Au Ra without scales or Viera without their ears it looks wrong!!

This just feels awful to see after waiting years for new Hrothgar hairstyles and all we get is a wig. I really hope this is an April Fools joke and if it is I will delete it but if this is what we were given after a couple years of waiting then the dev team messed up.

I said we Hrothgar got the short end because compared to Viera it feels like Hrothgar got less of the two and I know why, Hrothgar is probably the least popular especially when compared to Viera, but it still stings. They can change hairstyles anytime they want but we have to pay IRL money to do that (not sure if this is still true in 6.1 ). They got new hairstyles in 6.0 launch and kept their ears but we lost our ears.

I think I would've been more happy with them saying "We need more time so we can't do it this patch sorry" then what we got here, because this looks incomplete.
