Did TRUST info in Live Letter 68 seal the fate for SQUADRONS?

I'm a fan of SQUADRONS as well as the TRUSTS, but it seems with the information we received from Live Letter 68 regarding TRUSTS being implemented in old main scenario dungeons, starting in ARR, has basically sealed the fate for SQUADRONS.

I know it hasn't been confirmed. I know they have ceased doing any updates for the SQUADRONS. So will they keep both or eliminate SQUADRONS altogether?

I hope they keep squadrons, i want to keep getting those buff items.

I doubt they'd just remove them, but it certainly did seem to be the death knell for any actual future Squadron improvements or additions.

squadrons reward items at max level that you can't get from anywhere else, so i would assume they'd stay there, but won't receive further updates.

Squadrons are not likely to ever be removed because they serve a purpose, which is to be soldiers that you are the captain of.

I recall Yoshi-P recently hinted in an interview that there was a big update planned but we know that the priority of the grand company ranks is extremely low so updates to it can be years apart.

I really want squadron to be able to be the trust members too.

If you havn't unlocked them, then you get a generic set, but if you've unlocked them, then they can be run as trust in the glams you use. I'd love to see my little guys chatting and fighting with improved AI in pre ShB dungeons. But also to use them the old way too for the 18 hour high level rewards.

I've spent so much time on them on my old server getting a full set of lalafel to level 60, and now half way to doing it on my Materia server too (Gathered all the lalafel, and now levelling them to 50)

That was in the Korean interview/liveletter(one of them?) just before our live letter. Wasn't specifically towards squadron, and it ended up being trusts in pre-ShB dungeons.

I'm ecstatic for finally being able to avoid being tied down by other people and their bullcrap. I hope roulettes can be done with trust too, but i doubt it, which makes me sad.

Anyway, too bad squadron might not serve a purpose anymore, but it's more than worth the sacrifice.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who noticed that. Since trusts are now in 1-60 content where does that leave my squad? My dream would be if they reworked your squad to be integrated into your island sanctuary and updated to at least let you run all dungeons in the source, but my mind and gut tell me they are just going to go the way of lords of vermillion. ;A;

Their updates been mostly linked to slightly larger Grand Company updates... So, I think their future entirely depends on whether they want to give us those remaining Commander and Marshal ranks...

Though if they were smart, they could easily tie them to the Trust system updates for older content by making their unlock happen at earlier ranks than they currently do... A bit of rewriting, changing things around and have them unlock as part of joining a Grand Company after Ifrit and they could be a new player's primary Trust filler for when you don't have enough actual story NPCs.

It may depend how interchangable trusts can be. If it's underpinned by a generic "healer does this" script and they can drop any healer into it, great. But if there are independent "Alphinaud does this" and "Urianger does this" sets of instructions that can't be reassigned, then that's harder. Maybe they can copy-paste the instructions to everyone in the database of trust options?

Of course this is all getting well ahead on speculation. It may just be a set choice of four or so preselected characters per dungeon, and more likely to be minor MSQ characters than squadrons.
