"You pull, you tank" is a bad mentality

Same concept applies to healers when they say they can't/won't heal stupid. Sure, on one hand you can say that if a DPS or healer wants to pull, then they should queue as a tank. On the other hand you can say the tanks should just suck it up and do their job, and grab the aggro off of the other party members. No matter what, you get tension all because one person decided that the pace isn't to the their liking. This isn't a mechanical issue, or an issue of time; it is only a matter of etiquette, and a player doing something outside what their role requires to attempt to shave off a few minutes to the run isn't thinking about etiquette. They're not trying to speed things up for everyone else's benefit; just their own.

Unfortunately, speeding ahead still requires the cooperation from the other members of the party, or all you're doing is taking unnecessary damage. If everyone shoots ahead of the healer and the tank dies before the healer can even get into range; don't blame that healer. The entire group just effed up. DPS intentionally grabs agro and dies, once again, the group just screwed up. Being a bitter arsehat because someone stepped on your toes is not part of any job requirement, that is for sure.

All that said, if you want to pull and set the pace for the dungeon, play a effin tank.

- If the healer is obviously new and is struggling and someone is too impatient and pulling things, I give it 2 wipes to see if the person pulling can put 2 & 2 together that we can't handle it. If not, then I let them die on the 3rd go.

Ugh I recently had one RPR in Dead Ends, where I first tried my hand at healing after a 2 year break and told that in chat, and that RPR continued to run forward, pull wall to wall and then yelles at tank not doing his job properly because "AST shouldn't be struggling" even tho I specifically said that I'm not very good at healing and just getting a hang of it, so I can't heal both DPS and tank tanking separate packs.

I learned "Always stay behind the tank" early on in my MMO career. If the tank's the first one to go down the hallway you're doing it right.

If you keep trying to outrun me and pull over me (then proceed NOT to drag them to my AoE) then that's on you. I can wall2wall just fine. If I'm slowing down it's because I have to make sure the Healer has time to catch up or drop a heal if they need to.

Because a good Tank adjusts.

To be fair, it doesn't really matter as long as they pull ahead and are immediately behind/nearby the tank, because the tank was going to AoE at any rate and the mobs are going to be in the same place rather than needing to chase halfway across the map for them. It's just getting a bit more DPS ahead and making the pull smoother.

The one instance I can find no fault with for pulling ahead, and even rewards pulling ahead of the tank, is if a sage is in the party, because they can pre-shield Eukrasian Diagnosis. Having the Eukrasian Diagnosis shield break on the tank means 1 extra Toxikon II stack to do more DPS. Having a shield break on each party member mean more 3-4 more Toxikon II stacks... so funnily enough there's a bit of party play cooperation in pulling first but running close enough to the tank that the aggro can immediately be retransferred over to the tank with a sage in your group.

I'm not going to let the puller die; it's just a waste of time. If I can handle the increased load (assuming they bring the mobs to me), then more often than not I actually appreciate it, and it's up to the Healer to complain about any added strain, assuming they weren't the one who pulled in the first place. The Twelve only know why or how Healers get so impatient and rush-y during duties.

However, if they die, I die, or ESPECIALLY if we wipe because someone who isn't me pulled, you can guarantee they're getting smoke blown up their butt.

So I like to read the "Tales from DF" thread a lot, here and on Reddit too. There are always a ton of stories with YPYT issues on the subreddit, but what's far worse to me, regardless of which side of the YPYT issue they're on, is how fast people will resort to "You're not doing your job, that's harassment, I'm going to report you", all because they're not running a silly dungeon run exactly how one person wanted it. It's embarrassingly pathetic for that to be someone's first response. People on both sides act like complete babies.

If a DPS or healer pulls in front of you as a tank, refusing to grab aggro and watching them die (or not; sometimes the healer or DPS can survive easily) is just petty. It's basically a temper tantrum. It's an "I gotta teach them a lesson" sorta attitude that is frankly kinda cringe.

That's just my opinion! Tanks shouldn't do this!

I got kicked out of the party once for pulling ahead.
There was no excuse because the tank was literally a few meters behind me with no mobs chasing him.
So yeah, I agree. It's a bad toxic mentality.
And for people going to say: "Imagine being the tank. How do you feel?"
Then well, I main the tank role and I'll say this: "I totally don't mind people pulling ahead of me. If you want to do damage. Go on and do it! I got your back covered."
