Sorry, Skiros. If you have anything negative to say about the MSQ, I'm afraid you will have to be sentenced to perform the Manderville for an audience of Loporrits for 12 hours without break. The cult-like fanaticism surrounding the game's story is honestly scary at times.
Here are two very easy things for the fanatics to comprehend:
1. It is perfectly valid for someone to not like the story and still enjoy the rest of FF14!
2. Everyone has different tastes and there is enough content in FF14 that isn't the MSQ for new players! (vets might feel differently though...)
I don't care what people say, that this is an "RPGMMO" (idiotic statement), or this is a "Final Fantasy first", or whatever other excuse. Next time someone says they find the MSQ boring, lay off the well trodden path of common refrains and just say "that's fine" and continue on with your day.
I don't get why so many mentors feel the need to beat sprouts who complain about the MSQ into submission!! Stop telling people to unsub or quit or that "this game is not for you" when someone complains about the MSQ. Maybe they're all the way in ShB while skipping cutscenes because... Oh God, can you believe it, they like other parts of the game enough to tolerate the story!
Growth, profit, jobs, and bonus incentives are tied to metacritic ratings in the gaming and motion picture industry. Just because you want to be ignorant about what consensus does not make it worthless. Even the user rating is 95%, higher than the critics themselves. There were also people who were trying to tell everyone to review bomb EW because they couldn't log into the game. Had nothing to do with the story. Ratings nowadays honestly mean nothing.
People are allowed differing opinions. Not liking the story is not a crime. I shouldn't have to find a new game because one aspect of it didn't interest me. The only thing I know about the game's story is that every time I had to talk to Alphanaud, I'd end up having to fight against a group of people I was previously working with. Don't know why, but I honestly don't care. I've skipped every single cutscene possible and I've been playing this game for two years. Because I enjoy the actual content. If you get so offended that you feel the need to attack and scrutinize someone because they don't like a particular part of media that you do, sounds like a "you" problem.
No one said a thing about skipping cutscenes, the fact is you can't speak to the topic of the rating if you skipped cutscenes, that's the gist of it.
^^^^I wouldn't say shaming, but more confusing. It would be like playing The last of us or Life is Strange for the gameplay. You are kind of missing a huge part of what the game offers but it's your money, so who cares? Just don't go asking dumb story related questions in chat if you are going to ignore said story.
so much this.
personally if people want to skip cutscenes etc because it takes too much time or is boring, I dont care, its their life, their playstyle. just dont come back to me later asking why do we have to do this, or why is that happening and then freak out when I explain they can find out why in their inn room.
Actually you can speak to the rating.Growth, profit, jobs, and bonus incentives are tied to metacritic ratings in the gaming and motion picture industry. You just can't offer reasons as to why the story affected the rating.
The gameplay? Yes.
The log in extreme that everyone was playing? Yes.
The class changes that they've experienced? Yes.
Just because someone doesn't engage with every aspect of a game, doesn't mean they can't make comments on a game's rating. They just can't speak for what they don't participate in's effect on the rating. Even if that something they don't engage with is a major portion of the game.
This thread is about how it's okay to not like the story. Then you start comparing it to Metacritic and how it has a high rating. But Metacritic is affected by more than just the story. It is a game, after all. Games have more to them then story. Don't call me ignorant when you think that just because a game has overall high reviews, that means that the story itself must be amazing.Growth, profit, jobs, and bonus incentives are tied to metacritic ratings in the gaming and motion picture industry. Remember, it is okay to not like the story while still enjoying other parts of the game.

When they are being disingenuous in a dismissal, it’s not about passion. Also, who says I’m looking to convert anyone or “wake them up”? People are entitled to their own thoughts and feelings. That’s what this thread is about after all. But to claim something is completely devoid of context because you disagree; I can call it fanboyism, which is a description of their approach, or call them a liar, which would be directed more at them than an action. Sorry you see criticism as an insult when fanboyism is clearly something that clearly exists. It is part of certain cultures

I mean, ngl, I not even sure what would anyone enjoy doing in this game, aside from the story, the end game content is kinda... Weak when compared to other MMORPGs, but that's just my opinion I suppose.
Back in StB I had no idea what the story was about because I skipped everything. I had so much fun though. Loved all the raids and trials and when I first did Orbonne I was blown away. I just loved all the boss designs and the way the classes played. I was an AST main and was having a blast playing that class. When I finally got into DoL and DoH classes I had fun with that too, especially with btn. I thought it was so cool that you had to gather things at a certain time of day. Back then I had no idea that the story was the selling point because the friend that recommended it to me was a cutscene skipper too lol.
