I agree, altho DPS and Healers that go out of their way to pull even when I am pulling wall to wall still annoys the hell out of me and if I am in a bad mood it has made me leave before.
I tank fast, but some people act like hyperbolic children who are high on sugar and use every tool to rush in and pull ahead of you including bosses when the Healer is behind or even afk.
I think there is a middle ground, it's true that double/ wall to wall pulls are considered the standard in FFXIV.
However...
I still think that the tank sets the pace and if you want to set the pace then play a tank, and to some extent how good/ bad the healer is also sets the pace which in the end of the day the responsibility also falls on the tank to feel the healer out.
It's not the dps job to feel the healer out it's just safer and cleaner for everyone if the tank is in charge of pulling.
Tanks who pull 1 pack at a time or don't use sprint etc when they clearly can pull more tho, I don't think it's rly wrong to pull more so long as you bring the mobs to the tank and don't run in circles forcing them to chase you.
It's not polite and I don't generally do it, but it's more understandable.
But I've tanked on and off since the start and I do find that the kids on energy drinks and sugar who play dps sometimes are incredibly annoying and makes tanking more of a hassle than it needs to be.
Ultimately it's the tanks job and responsibility to pull.
And there are things an even just okay tank should be paying attention to that most dps don't seem to pay attention to.
I've had plenty of times where the Healer went afk without saying anything ( or DC ) and the hyperbolic dps aren't paying attention at all and just sprints into the pack.
In 9 out of 10 cases there is no reason why the dps should be pulling, it's very rare I see dps pulling in a way that is actually justified imo.
