I got my first ifrit weapon (blade) on my first kill. Then another weapon 10 kills later, and so on. 1 weapon every 10 kills was my average. I obtained 5 weapons + 10 totems in less than 60 kills, and never once got a duplicate. It took me maybe another 20 or 30 kills to get the one of remaining two weapons i needed due to the fact that I got a duplicate three times. Then, I bought my last weapon with the 10 totems I held on to. Less than 100 kills.
Now, to salt the wounds, i'm going to let you in on the story of my lala ls member who got 4 different ifrit weapons (no duplicates) in 7 kills. Read em and weap. 4 weapons, seven kills, full moon, lalafell. It must be the fact that he is a Lalafell.
I know others have gone 0/200 or something rediculous but I can't help but feel that this was prepatch. Post totem patch I believe they alleviated drop rates slightly so that may be the cause for my case as well as that other lucky lala. On the other hand i know another lala who got 5 or 6 ifrit cudgels... and that just sucks.
On the other hand, I agree that making weapons drop to loot list and passable to other players would be nice, but in the end it might just make it too easy to obtain all 7 weapons. Part, if not all, of the reasoning behind primals, and the rest of any mmo for that matter, is to keep players playing (and paying) for as long as possible. So it is understandable that SE would make it thus.
On the other hand, if there were more end game content such as...7 different primal battles, i'm sure we wouldn't be having this discussion. Players would be out there trying to obtain other items from different end game contents. This would break the monotony of repeating the same fight hundreds of times over and over again and no one would be here complaining about how tedious it is to get all 7 weapons because there would be something else to aim for as soon as you got bored of it.
