People advertising they're running Parsers

It's this double standard I can't stand. People who bot use mods and dps meters are breaking the rules but se won't do anything about it. As long as you are using market board and auto farming bots you are safe if you don't slip you bot. But people can't report you because it isn't enforced. I've reported botters for years and these same people play 24/7 and have made billions of gil at the cost of destroying anyone who wants to try to make money with trade skills. Seeing 20 bots instantly swarm houses as well is fun

The rest does matter because he has expanded on that statement which includes the things I mentioned. If you truly agree with the spirit of the rule, you wouldn't be arguing this. You are arguing that people should be following the letter of the rule rather than the spirit of the rule. In which case, we should be banned for using things like discord.

Should people be advertising that they use parsers? No, they shouldn't. However, it isn't because parsers will lead them to becoming toxic players, but because they are risking their accounts due to overzealous people taking advantage of the letter of the rule. In a perfect world, you would only get banned if you were using a parser in a toxic manner, namely harassing people over their DPS. However, it is not a perfect world and thus careless but otherwise innocent players will get punished for it.

That being said, does it mean the people who are reporting even innocent mentioning's of parsers are free from guilt, even though they cannot be persecuted in anyway? No, they are not. They are being toxic themselves, and while no action can be taken against them, it does not mean what they did was right. You really should only be reporting people if they are being toxic with parsers, that would be following the spirit of the rule; just because you can report someone doesn't always mean you should report them.

Literally yes, it is ok then. The rule was not made for people who dont use parsers for toxic ends. Following the TOS word for word is nonsensical, you need follow the idea behind those words. If you follow the TOS word for word then suddenly you should get banned for using discord voice chat or for gear calculation in excel. If you only follow the TOS word for word when it suits your arguement, you dont really care about the rules anyway.

Because it is. By using parsers and not belittling others, as well as not mentioning using it in game, they are following the spirit of the rule.

By your logic, people shouldn't be using discord, web browsers to look up information on the game, or OBS to record gameplay, just to name some examples.

That is following the letter of the rule, not the spirit of the rule. Yoshi P and the devs could probably make parsers impossible if they truly wanted to, but they don't. Fact is, the raiding scene depends on parsers, it is a necessity for raiding. The analytic capabilities that it enables allows for the raiding scene to even work. Yoshi P and the devs understand this, but they have to make an official statement. That's why there is a no third party rule, but the ability to parse still exists as it functions on a don't ask don't tell policy. It is also why they will only take action if you mention you use it in game. You can talk about it all you want off-game, but they won't take action unless it was stated in game.

Well yeah people don't really do it to evaluate others, they do it to see if they are doing well and take steps to improve themselves for higher content.

Anyone announcing what they are doing is just asking for trouble.

considering i main bard, i have been getting side eye like 1 out of 10 run everytime i join party, stuff like "oh no bard" or "welp low dps" or "this is going to take long isnt it?", i have been eating that "critique" like breakfast for a long time

doing parser is fine as long they use it for their own research/reference, as long they dont use it to "check" which one is doing the lowest dps then start finger pointing to that person, do that and you are welcomed to my blacklist lol
