I couldn't care less about your opinion on my take. Someone complained people generalized mentor are bad I told him why and what he should do to fix it. You're free to be completly irrelevant as a mentor and we're free to say you are a bunch of clowns.Such a lame take. Why would anyone need to be a gigachad in dungeons? Those are so insanely easy and any "mechanics" are extremely well-telegraphed, mentors are not needed in dungeons. The gigachads you're looking for are the ones in extreme trials carrying noobs through the slightly harder content. If you never run those, then of course you never see what you think are "gigachad mentors."
What I'm saying is that your entire opinion on this issue is based on ignorance. You think mentors should be gigachads in dungeons, that pretty much says it all. Let me ask you, do you even do extreme trials in duty finder? Have you ever once completed an extreme trial in duty finder? Because those are the one and only places where gigachad mentors are required.
You are attempting to hold mentors to a ridiculous standard in content where... that standard is simply not necessary at all. You don't have to like it or care about it, but that doesn't make it any less true. The only clown here is you.
I suppose you mean me by this. I know the why of things, which mostly boils down to people being infected by others' negativity or them being hung up on the few bad experiences they might've had, but I fail to see what you said to do as a way to fix things.
The Glamour Effect: That awkward moment when you realize you know FFXIV's gear pieces better than your own wardrobe X'D
I've been spamming dungeons to level up AST so I figured some of those runs wouldn't be winners. I was pleasantly surprised with how many good runs I got, although I certainly didn't expect the bad ones to be one after the other... 3 painful 30 minutes runs back to back... here's a summary of this 'joyous' experience.
First one is in Castrum Abania (PLD, AST, BLM, NIN). I quickly notice that the tank has less HP than the others I've encountered thus far so I inspect him out of curiosity and it's all lvl 60 gear. Great o.x We go slowly, pull by pull, the tank's HP going out in chunk with every mob hit. DPS on bosses is slow... and I mean SLOW. The BLM never figured out the elemental resistance mechanic on the second one, basically almost killing themselves with every hit, and we went through so many phases and elemental shifts... I was wondering if we were going to hit an enrage at some point. It's not like I could take a moment to type anything out either since the tank is losing 60% of their HP on every tank buster and pretty slow on the whole elemental shifting thing, so I have to spam heal them the whole way through. The BLM kept DCing on the way to the last boss (which isn't their fault, servers have been wonky, but it still elongated this hell of a run) and speaking of said boss... DPS weren't dpsing the claws, BLM was standing in everything, tank was getting demolished by the tankbuster that now had 4 stacks of medecine and I'm in the fetal position, crying in a corner. Thankfully we didn't wipe, don't ask me how, and I get the heck out of there.
Second run of Castrum Abania (PLD, AST, NIN, DNC). The paladin is better geared this time, which was a relief, but we're still single pulling because they apparently don't believe in mitigation. Like... zero mitigation. I'm having to spam heal them through every pack of mobs and DPS is as about slow as the previous run. Faaaantastic. They did figure out the second bosses' elemental shift, at least, so there was that, but the ninja went AFK after the 2nd boss all the way until we reached the last one. Apparently their controller died. It was another 30 minutes of frustration, but at least slightly less frustrating than the previous run.
And then there was the last run, Holminster's switch, as I finally hit lvl 71. I was so excited for ShB dungeons... and I wish I had done a trust run, because it would have been faster... and less painful. The tank was a returning player (Another PLD) who also believes mitigation is fake news. The previous tank would use some on bosses at least, this one did not. They were doing double pulls, which would be awesome if... y'know, THEY'D USE SOME MITIGATION. I thought I was going to have a heart attack in there. The two DPS viewed the cutscene when they zoned in, so I'm assuming they were new to the dungeon. Considering they would collect vulnerability debuffs like they're going out of style, I'd be inclined to believe they were indeed new. Nothing wrong with peeps learning of course, just unfortunate this happened right after 2 nightmarish runs. The tank and a DPS both ate dirt on the last boss, was able to salvage things with some rezzes and the most intense healing of my life. Thankfully the group figured out the frantic lil catboy seemed to know where to stand on the pendulum phase the second time around and stacked on top of me, for which I'm very much thankful.
Moral of the story: if you are a tank, please, pretty please with sugar on top, be kind to your healer and use those fun little buttons that make the monsters hurt less.
Lol. Me and my partner did a Gubal Library a couple days ago for no reason at all. I was Dancer and he was Ninja. We kept a competition: the one who did the most damage in all situations, AoE and boss, would be the one and true victor. Tank and healer were strangers. We didn't ask to have more mobs pulled just for us and we made do.So, I have a quick one from today, Expert roulette, Matoya's Relic.
I was on my SMN, we had a RDM, GNB and WHM.
Was the fastest and most efficient run I ever seen, like by a LONG SHOT.
First boss ? Dead long before the second set of orbs spawned.
Second Boss ? About 30% HP when he went up. and Skipping the second wall attack.
Last Boss ? Wind sprite spawned at 30% HP, only got one casted attack from the boss after that.
To the guys who were with me, you guys were amazing.
Everything was melting. Trash? Dead in a few seconds. The first boss was down long before his second Disclosure - something I've never seen. The third boss never got to the phase of putting down 3-man circles.
In the end I was better on AoE and he better at bosses, and he claimed victory anyway.
Maybe the DDs in your group were embroiled in a similar competition.![]()

I've been meaning to ask, at what % DOES it pop? This happens to me so many times that when I enter anything, I kindly ask the tank to, please kindly let the excog pop when I put it on them. Some people know how it works but not everyone plays scholar to know. I met people who have the Burger King crown and did not know how this ability works, in my own friend groupNow they love it.
To me a recent best moment was when I rescued a new player in the 1st Nier raid and they said thanks for not letting them burn to death. (There were a lot of newbies that day and everything took so long to do, but we did it ^.^)
