Regarding Congestion During Endwalker’s Launch

We would like to share some information regarding the congestion that may occur during the Early Access period and release of Endwalker.

Since the launch of a new expansion is when a large number of players will be playing for extended periods of time, we are expecting far more simultaneous logins compared to usual. Furthermore, following a dramatic increase in the player base in all regions since this summer, we are currently experiencing record numbers of active users, and therefore are expecting a number of logins that is yet to be seen since the launch of FFXIV.

In preparation for these predictions, we optimised our servers ahead of the expansion’s launch in order to increase login caps. On the other hand, due to the ongoing global shortage of semiconductors we have previously mentioned, we were unable to add new Worlds before the release of Endwalker. The addition of new Worlds will still be considered as we procure the necessary server machines.

As such, there is a high likelihood of congestion that will result in Worlds reaching maximum login capacity and lengthy wait times when logging in. We would like to apologise for making this sort of announcement at a time when many of you are looking forward to the expansion, as well as for inconveniences that may be caused by congestion.

Although we were unable to add new Worlds, we have implemented every other measure that was possible, such as replacing the matching servers with higher-performance machines, optimising processes, increasing processing speeds, and raising the number of simultaneous logins. We will further enhance our monitoring of the situation to allow for as many players as possible to log in. We ask for your understanding and cooperation regarding this matter.

It REALLY sucks they knew about this for a while and are announcing this 3 freaking days before early access.

I think any rational player expects congestion during an expansion launch but this post reads very fatalistically. Basically: Set your expectations as low as possible.

OMG! I must be a seer or something, I knew it months in advance! lol
Whoever was thinking everything would be butter smooth with the huge influx of new players was HIGH on Copium.

It sounds very doom and gloom, but it won't be as horrible as you expect. There will always be hitches though. Also, it is important to remember not everyone will be making a mad dash at 4AM on the first day of Early Access. Not everyone can take off work. Also, queues are prioritized with full paying players with Trial Members to the back of the line.

hmmm, expansion launch.. and you are aghast about a 3 day notice about it being a bit busier trying to log in.

not to put too fine a point on it... but if this is a shock to you, you must be pretty inexperienced at any kind of launch. I think it was nice that they said something. period. shows they are thinking of us in the last few days before launch.

some games manufacturers, not to mention any names, wait until a week after launch, and its issues, before issuing any kind of statement, which is usually "wow, that was a bit rocky, but we think it went well..."

my expectations have not changed, but then again, its a launch, and I was not expecting a yellow brick road lined with roses and cotton candy either. with the OP's start date, you would think they would know better

ShB wasn't awful. I don't expect Endwalker to be some disaster people are complaining it to be. Long wait times, sure? But major outages I don't think so. I think the only disadvantage with this launch is not being able to add new worlds but did they add new ones for ShB I can't remember?

IIRC they only added new worlds for EU. They split of the DCs for SHB. Making Crystal with the RP servers, goblin bryn and courl and diablos which if I remember correctly were all servers on primal and aether before yeah

I thought it went well considering some of the titanic/iceberg disasters I have been to in my gaming history.

things happen, life continues, and eventually, typically sooner than later, I will play whatever it is that launched.,,

even if they had said nothing I was expecting "congestion" lol. its a game launch for pete's sake...
