I disagree, no we should totally have Crossover Raids. Just because Nier wasn't that great doesn't mean they couldn't do better with another attempt. Look at Arr to Heavenward as abit of an example. But of course I should say it shouldn't be the Norm like we ONLY get Crossovers as Raid content, but I see no reason they couldn't do it again in the future and have a better theme/idea.

Loved this game the past several months ive done it. Even the stuff some people claim was tedious. Loved ARR and even the post quests. Pugged coils, Loved Stormblood, as im a sucker for a revolution story. Shadowbringers MSQ blew me away.

What is this Nier raid?? You meet some lalafels with beards, and behind a hidden mine there is basically a city no one knew anything about with A.I. fighting aliens? What?? It felt so out of place...Apparently this was a crossover with a game called Neir that I have never heard of.

This was also the first raid mechanically I failed so hard at but I think it was more to blame with the aesthetics. The colors and textures literally gave me a head ache. The white floors with the very lightly colored orange markers on the ground were very hard for me to see. It was very hard for me to tell what was going on most of the time. I never died so much in this game yet, it was embarrassing. Im not the best raider in the world but I do have heroic WoW and a little mythic experience.

Anyway, I did some googling and it seems this raid was very highly praised by most of the community, so I expect this to be an unpopular opinion but since day one I said I would be fair to the game when I found both positive and negative. I disliked it so much that if I ever make an alt I will go out of my way to not unlock the place. I hope they dont do something that far out there again.
Idk where you checked but most people I talked with agree that the Nier raids are the worst raids in the game. They are so bad that I didn't even bother unlocking them when I made an alt on another Data Center to play with some friends. The best proof of how universally despised these raids are is to queue as a Healer to any of the raids (but particularly the 2nd one) and see how you have to wait 20+ minutes for it to pop, whereas any other raid you get instapop.

Aesthetically they are boring (OH WOW A WHITE ROOM! that must have surely blew out the budget), the story doesn't make sense and it's boring, the fights are boring and a huge step down mechanic and difficultywise from the acclaimed Ivalice raids.

The music was good, doe, but you'd best be off buying the Orchestrion Rolls from MB.

Hopefully this served as a lesson to the devs that crossovers only work with popular and loved franchises, not with niche robot waifu simulators, and only in small doses like the Monster Hunter or FFXV crossover. Maybe in the future when they have some free time and resources after EW they'll remove these raids and replace them with proper interesting raids tied to the First's story.

Story-wise, it felt like a buildup to a payoff that never happened. The Copied Factory built up a mystery with 2P and 9S and just where it all came from; Puppet's Bunker gave it a sharp twist; and then the Tower just.......grabbed a whole pile of plot elements from the entire Drakkengard/Nier universe, tossed them in a blender, and tried to pretend it worked out somehow. The weekly epilogues with the dwarves felt less like a meaningful part of the story and more like a dying wheeze.

Gameplay-wise, I liked the first two raids, but the Tower is not only a visually boring pile of white and gray blocks, it's actually painful to look at after a while. Even after they modified some of the visuals, it still gives me a headache.

You have very colorfully described what I was thinking, I agree completely!

Yeah. Honestly, I would have actually liked it if the entire Nier collab would have just been Copied Factory and ended there. Let you fight 9S and then find the room with all of the 2B bodies in explore mode but leave it there. Leave it this weird, unsettling mystery with no real conclusion or explanation. I don't know how exactly they would have done it with the other 24 mains being completely unrelated to the first (and not even connected to Nier at all) but it would have been more effective.

My issue was I was expecting a similar raid quality to Stormblood. Thematically, Ivalice it left a solid impression. It was a combination of the ancient backdrop, the amazing voice over work and how cutscenes were melded with the fights. Yet in Nier the colors are bland, the bosses aren’t particularly memorable and there’s no ‘epic’ feel to it. When I fought Thunder God CID, it was absolutely lit.

But fighting some random robot with a passable design or something that looked like it came out of a forbidden jar wasn’t it for me.

I don't like the Nier raids either, I have no attachment to the Nier games- but I'm not going to knock it down for those reasons one of which is similar to yours- it's visually a headache (Paradigm's Breach). I only ever run them because of random roulette alliance, or for a glam.

    They are piss poor raids.

Visually bland, at at worst, offensive. I don't play Tower at all because of the massive headache it always induces. Mechanically bland, with the exception of Puppet's Bunker which was interesting mechanics wise. It was still much easier than Mhach (we don't talk about Void Ark) or Ivalice ever were when they were current. Not only that, but the bosses have massive health pools that make the fights drag on for so damn long. Engels comes to mind where you just sit there wailing on him for 15 years while nothing happens. No voice acting during the fights... why? And of course, the incredibly bad "story" which might as well not have existed for all it told us.

At least the music is good and it has some decent glams.

havent finished them yet but not enthused with what I have done. The mechanics are neat, the design is... ok if way out of place. The story is bad and out of place and meaningless to eorzea, Ivalice added to the world and feels like lorewise holds relevance. This is a weird one and done crossover thats out of place and doesn't fit in at all (2p or whatever and the robot people look SO out of place in ffxiv, and my character is a random bystander). I don't think crossover content like this should be major content, it should be done more like the ffxv or monster hunter events.

The gear also feels incredibly one note and boring to me, a couple nice pieces... only a couple

who praises the nier raids? Not me.

For one thing, the raids themselves are incredibly underwhelming. Everything is lame robot monsters and the mechanics are just nothing but AoE. There are no interesting or memorable mechanics at all, the encounters are boring and uninspired, overall the bosses are just damage sponge striking dummies.

Then there's the fact that it's nothing more than a blatant advertisement for a non-FF game. I actually genuinely despise the Nier raids. They could have done anything else but this and it would have been better.
