Yeah... they do actually. They use WoW jargon.

Stuff like referring to their characters as a toon.
    Glamour as Transmog
    Provoke as Taunt etc.

There's a few more, but it's usually fairly obvious when someone is from WoW if they do much talking at all. Outside of dungeons in social settings they'll also usually say things like, "I've got 15 years experience tanking. I tanked in WoW." etc.

Of course, just because they use the jargon doesn't mean they're being jerks or bad or anything, but man does the jargon drive me up the wall.

Also FWIW, I'm pretty sure the WoW Refugees of prior waves outnumbered the intrinsic FF playerbase sometime around mid Stormblood. They've been coming in for years now, and the initial FFXIV populace really wasn't all that big. It's gotta be something like, people whose first MMO is XIV and WoW players as the biggest sections of the playerbase, with legacy, FFXI vets, and other MMO enthusiasts as the smallest sections of the pie.
FYI I started calling my character in an online game a "toon" in The Sims Online in 2002.

I used a program called Transmorgrifier to create items others could download for The original Sims game. It overlaid new graphics on the old objects so calling all glams transmog clicked with my brain.

I don't tank nor do I care what they call it. All I want to know is are they grabbing the MoB off me.

I have healed in 4 different MMOs so yeah I have 15+ years of experience.

Making assumptions based on jargon just isn't a very accurate way to determine where they came from. Now in my case yes I did play WoW. Though I am NOT part of the current refugee wave having arrived in FFXIV full time several years ago.

Here's the thing though. Not once has someone who's used that jargon not been from WoW. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So it's not really an assumption.

Nah. We used words like "aggro" in older games, like DAoC. I don't think there was a word for it in UO, although the concept did exist.
What originated in WOW was "transmog" and "mob(ile unit)".
No idea where "toon" comes from -- I don't like the term. My characters are characters, not toons.

I came across mob long before WoW, playing on muds and mushes.

Transmog originated in WoW. Mob most definitely did not. I heard the term used all the time on MUDs and MUSHes in the 1990s, ten years before WoW was even released. I'm not 100% positive, but I believe that "toon" is a reference to the Toon tabletop RPG from 1984: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toon_(role-playing_game)
When you created new a character in that game, you were creating a new toon.

I first heard characters in an MMO referred to as "toons" back in Guild Wars 1. I always thought that the usage came from the Toon RPG that was published in 1984: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toon_(role-playing_game)

Some of my friends played that game when I was in middle school.

It might well have come from that. I was simply showing where I personally learned it
