It's not about speaking decently, it's about not being able to speak at all. If someone does a wipable mechanic wrong, you can't tell them because that is now "harassment". By saying, "not everyone had their AoE in the right spot so we wiped" it doesn't fix anything. The person who did the mechanic wrong isnt going to know that they were the one in the wrong spot. When you generalize like that, people choose to be ignorant. "Oh, someone did the mechanic wrong, but it couldn't've possibly been me!" So you don't get anywhere. Speaking directly to someone doesn't make it harassment if you're trying to be helpful, but by these policies, it does.I have only read the first page at this point but it was enough for me to realize that due to all the outrage, there is truth to the stereotype of games being completely inept at how to talk to another human being properly and respectfully. After reading about these changes and watching some videos on them, I came into this thread expecting there to be outrage about not being able to sell clears. Instead, people are genuinely more upset about having to behave like a decent human being. Talk to people in game the way you would a strange in real life. Its that simple.
Being blunt is being clear. Blunt is not necessarily rude or indecent.
1) The report feature can be used as a highly effective tool to remove people from the game that you do not like. All social networks with open-ended guidelines can create this. The prohibited activities page is very broad, yet also is dependent on whether people report. This means that players need to practice good diplomacy to avoid being reported for minor things, like repeatedly using an emote or telling someone to turn on tank stance. It’s not really about the rules, per se, it’s about being in good social standing with others so that you’re not thrown off the “island”, so to speak. Many well-intentioned people could be targeted by others if they’re deemed an undesirable. What about those who use the paint emote repeatedly (without chat text) as is very common in cities, just as an example? Hopefully no one that dislikes you sees that.
2) Much of the most toxic behavior in this game happens on Discord or other sites. That could range from insults to harassment to bullying over one’s parse to even worse. FFlogs is a behemoth in the North American FFXIV community and people rely on it, not for personal information, but to establish a social pecking order by which lower-ranking players are ostracized and harassed. When will Square Enix take down this site? Will they ever? The rules clarification in-game only reinforces the use of third-party communication and sites. It just pushes the problem elsewhere where Square Enix’s prohibited activities are magnified way further than anything that could be achieved in-game. And if you choose not to use those sites, you’re very limited in your opportunities to play this game with others.
Honestly, I feel like the discussion would be moot if it was limited strictly to DF. In PF, you are actively choosing to join in, so you can leave at anytime without a penalty. On the same hand, you can also be kicked without penalty as well. The difference now seems be instead of calling out someone and giving them a chance to fix the issue, they are just now going to get kicked without a word being said, and then we'll start seeing forum threads about how they were kicked and don't know why.
If one person clearly is flubbing a mechanic and everyone else gets it, why be vague?
Rokke, your tether goes to B or we wipe
is much clearer than
Everyone take your tethers to your letter
It is entirely possible to point out a mistake without swearing at or insulting someone. Its just pointing out a fixable error. I’d rather someone tell me what I’m doing wrong instead of dancing around it.
Most of the changes/clarifications Im ok with, but I can see that one making pugging EX/Savage even more challenging :/

I think there is a misunderstanding:
The "Minimum iLVL" setting in party finder is so the party leader can make the gear sync down, in essence making the raid/instance/whatever "harder".
I'm talking about random PuGs via duty finder.
My meaning was that: if you got stuck with 23 party members in Labyrinth of the Ancients, each with iLVL 50 gear (the required iLVL), then they are doing what the game is asking them to do. So, they're not doing anything wrong despite the inevitable terrible time you are about to have in your ilvl 130 Augmented Ironworks gear.

That's not the issue here. If most of you read passed the forums and went to the actual page, you’d see this is beyond being considerate. It’s about not hurting anyone’s feelings at all. The policing of all speech. Can’t say “just ignore them” even if someone is clearly trolling. Can’t point out a person is undergeared for the duty they queued for. If someone is doing a mechanic wrong, you need to ask permission to try it another way. This is concerning. Tbh, I’m just going to kick people rather than dance around the bush, making sure i checked off all the boxes, making sure i formed my sentence correctly, and no one, anywhere, will find a single word offensive.
