Meleeing as a healer used to be a fairly solid little DPS gain. Whilst it's not as effective as it once was, for whatever reason SCH actually melees for considerably more than WHM. It's quite possible to 'gain' about half an extra broil from auto attacking in a typical Savage turn at 80.

Still is if you get synced down to 50. (looking at you MSQ) ><

Ruin 2 (instant cast) spam allows for Book Smacks in between that more than make up for the 10 potency difference of Ruin and Ruin 2 at lvl 50.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

When the most interesting part about optimizing healers is wondering if you can get that book slap in with a dot refresh during that really melee-unfriendly mechanic.
And LS is for paper cuts. Scaring a bunch of tanks and melees during "don't cuddle in melee range"-mechanics while at it is definitely a bonus c:

Ever since YoshiP pointed the finger at the "casual" audience being the target and the justification for the "simpler" design philosophy of healers, the forums have been in an uproar against the "sylphies".

This general discontent seemed to have attracted trols and flamers, eager to kick wasp hive to get their 5 minutes of internet attention.

Just say you like the current design, say you like the changes, glorify simplicity above complexity, or worst of all say "healers should heal" as a blanket statement and watch the replies pile on.

I don't really condone it, but it's human nature to blame a certain group for certain issues, especially since they've explicitly stated they're pandering to casuals when the casuals largely never asked to be pandered to, and it ended up alienating veteran healers.

The worst part is SE's lack of willingness to compromise though, they pretty much dug a grave for an entire role, shoved the veterans in, buried them alive as they were screaming at them to stop, and then the icing on the cake is that they put a picnic blanket on the freshly dug dirt and invited the casuals over for brunch. Meanwhile the new healers are wondering why there's so much screaming without realizing they're sitting on a freshly dug grave and helping suffocate the last person who enjoyed the spot

And then you get new healers like me who are actually listening and asking the devs to let them out because even they can see that something is wrong.

Hey, I blame Sylphies because the job designers are Sylphies. They made that quite clear in the live letter. Healers should HEAL ONLY! Damage is only a tiny bonus! You should like overhealing as your primary source of enjoyment! The fact that there are several players cheering this on is just the cherry on top; it's one thing to design healers like flaming garbage because you don't play them and don't care to know how they work, it's quite another to praise actively bad design and screech for more.

I've been complaining about this game's hideous healer design as its major stain on an otherwise great game for about six years now. I'm done pretending I need to entertain the "ideas" from players who hate interesting design, hate responsibility, hate learning, constantly spout the same boring ignorant strawman arguments about how healing works; "You should be HEALING! If you aren't spamming cure you're playing WRONG!", "stupid RAIDERS trying to add more than one button in downtime making this game too CONFUSING!"

I'm totally fine with new players. Inexperienced players. Wanting to learn, practice, improve, all that stuff is great. Heck, even "I'm not that great at this, and I don't think I'll get better, but I do my best" is fine. My beef is entirely with people who proudly don't care about any of this and want the entire role dumbed down into their Netflix queue free pass baby pen and blow snot at anyone who objects to it.

The fact you said this and got 5 upvotes tells me exactly why healers are not getting more dps spells. The devs know you idiots are already a problem with 2. The only reason tanks and dps have any mild amount of healing is to try and help when youre dead but nowadays its used on cd because you refuse to do your job. Quit the role and let actual healers heal please.
