Oh boy, do I have a story for you all.
Had a Ghimlyt Dark Run with 1 new person - BLM. They died a lot. That's not a problem. What the problem was, the rest of the party dying to the same mechanics over and over again on the bosses.
By the end of the first boss, we were legit wiping from the spinning mechanic because the SCH or DPS would die in droves. I was sure I was doing like 70% of the total damage against the bosses' HP as a tank at this point since the HP bar really only moved whenever I'm doing damage... So I dialed down my DPS to see if I can help people out with Heart of Stone because they were dying even with my mitigations on raidwides. Then I proceed to watch people run into AoEs, and look at their skill rotation.
The scholar spamming physick and occasionally adlo/succor, then eating AoEs with some Broils. The dancer freestyling their dance skills with single target attacks, then going into multi target weaponskill attacks on the boss. No, they don't have flourish at this level. The AoE attacks weren't even in range on the boss..
BLM using Flare as their main attack rotation for both single target and AoE. Fire III, Fire III, Fire III / Flare. Blizzard III, Blizzard IV, Blizzard IV, Blizzard IV. Fire III. It was like this for mobs and like this for bossing. Well, that explains why we had no damage.
Best part was that the BLM refused to revive after wipe and waited for SCH to ress them every time, so they had an even bigger penalty debuff because they were always dead. In the end, that's not a big deal. They were already probably doing less dps than the scholar who already can't keep their DoT up at any point in time with. It does hurt a little inside when they throw their leylines down, and then proceed to step out of them and begin casting Blizzard III ..
Wiped twice to the first boss. Succeeded on the third attempt, going to the second boss. By the second boss, people die to freezing missile and the 270 degree conal attack. We wipe again. And again. At some point in the Scholar and the Black Mage's back-and-forth banter, I realize they're a couple. Makes sense, I can understand why they want to wait for their S.O. to pick them off the ground. Doesn't help that they're still dying over and over again.
What doesn't make sense is why the Scholar would run ahead, like miles ahead to pull all the enemies while their S.O. needed some time and lagged behind for a long while before catching up with the rest of the party. Isn't the couple supposed to wait for each other to enjoy the content together??? What kind of joke is this? A toxic relationship? I don't mind waiting for the new player in the duty since they might be taking in the sights. After all, I can just immediately grab aggro back as a tank. I'm really partial to the new player experience because I know how it is to have a party that runs ahead while you're lost. Though it does concern me they were just afk for a fairly long while after being ressed.
Anywho, after the 4th? 5th? Wipe? I start to do slow my DPS rotation because I don't want their first time to be sitting on the floor 24/7 and getting a carry. It's a fairly memorable dungeon, with all the NPCs and all.
After I started doing less DPS, the scholar starts Broiling more and playing better. Like using oGCD heals first instead of Physick spam, and Adloquium + Lucid Dreaming when they had to ress someone or heal themselves quickly. Are mine eyes deceiving me? Oh nope, they went back to physick spam. Hmm...
So I choose not to mitigate incoming raidwides with reprisal or heart of light, and use my mitigation rotation a bit more poorly. Lo and behold, DNC using shield samba. SCH suddenly adjusting a ton better for a moment. They all stop eating AoEs. HMMMMM... I could always chalk it up to finally 'memorized mechanic', except they were level 80s and most certainly ran this dungeon before this. So... is this intentional?
By the time we reach the final boss, it has been 40 minutes since the start of this duty.
At this point I'm like 90% sure they're trolling and their mechanic & rotational reactions are starting to show more frequently. Those reactions are definitely not done in a panic. Instead, they resemble more of a natural reflex before they suppress it. I'm pretty sure they stopped hiding that they're trolling too because I just haven't responded at all to their messages since the start of the whole dungeon. I'm honestly too tired to care and just want to clear the dungeon since I've already invested 40 minutes in here.
We wipe to the final boss once. We clear it the second time. Roughly 50 minutes to an hour later, I'm free from this accursed party. A quick search later lets me know they were all from the same FC. Yep, definitely trolling.
And never again will I doubt myself to click -leave duty- when something like this happens again when I'm tanking.
