It's a viable strategy. Honestly, I've found myself a little disheartened by how easy some of the finale fights such as Thordan, Shinryu and Hades have become. I'm hoping the upcoming adjustment to player stats means they won't be as easily overpowered. What's y'all's opinions on using a tank LB when it's not needed during cinematic moments (I.E. the boss' ultimate attack in a fight that you're going to win anyways like Suzaku or Thordan)
I had someone get mad at me yesterday for using it but honestly I think it makes the fights be a little bit more epic/fun when they're just going to be a faceroll anyways
Over the last couple of days in alliance raids there's been a sam who is terrible, dying to all the mechanics and probably should have gone to bed instead of raiding...let down the raid, damaged other players and was all around horrible.
It was meand I'm sorry to all my alliance groups. Each day I've gotten better. It's hard to switch from tanking for 3 years to sam.
Recently I did a few runs in heroes gauntlet to get my WHM TEA bis.
The amount of player who still have lvl 7X gear is just astonishing. Nearly every run I stopped before the first boss to explain them how they get easy lvl 80 gear.
But the worst I've seen was a GNB with less HP then me.
He had multiple DPS and a healer class on 80 but this was his first Tank.
The reason for so less health was probably broken gear but he also had some lvl 60 and 7X parts equipped.
The tank didn't want to leave on his own so we had to wait 5 min to kick him.
Ran an expert just to stay warmed up to XIV so I don't get completely rusty.
Ran it on DRG. It was going super well, Dancer, GNB, and WHM. Dancer was great. I 90k'd during second boss though
Came back, Dancer didn't use Closed Position on me, so I reminded them to(I always just say to put it on anyone, please just use it lol), and they immediately put it on me. That's the fastest and best response I've ever gotten to telling a Dancer to Partner up with anybody.
I didn't get any comms, but my play didn't feel shoddy. I'm pretty at home on DRG. It was my first 50 in 2.0, and is always one of my first three jobs to level cap at expansion rise. I comm'd the Dancer. The whole party was good, and something as simple as quickly reapplying Closed Position shouldn't be commendable... but man... I've seen some really raggedy half-assed Dancers throughout 5.0~Now.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
Shinryu and Hades sure, but Thordan's always been kind of a joke, even back in HW with fresh 60s.
Just ran a Copperbell Hard and we had a scholar with lv41 book, not having the full freebie lv90 set so used the chest piece of lv55 and the heals were so minuscular. Haven't seen a Lustrate healing this low for a while
Luckily the tank pulled small and the last 2 bosses i handled on mechanics so less healed required.
The run was still smooth luckily but hopefully the person won't run in HW with that gear..
It's strange to me how people still enjoy those fights when they become like that. I think they're so underwhelming because of it. The .3 fights (and Nabriales) have fared a little better, particularly Tsukuyomi. Real shame about the others.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
I was curious whether it used to be really hard originally and they hit him with the nerfbat a bit too hard or something, because it was just ridiculously easy when I did it recently. I wonder if you can die on that fight if you try really hard, because it didn’t feel like it!
Everytime I do Shinryu, the group wipes at least once. If you don't know what you're doing, you -will- get knocked off the platform, so in that sense, I wouldn't categorize that fight as a joke, especially compared to Thordan (I don't think I've ever seen anyone die... heck, I barely even threw a heal when I did it on my WHM, it's kind of underwhelming). Granted you can still finish Shinryu with half the group dead because of how over-geared the DPS is but it still requires you to pay some degree of attention at least.
I've only done Hades once so can't really comment on that one.
Nabriales is a nightmare with new people. Between alternating the debuff and the meteor while dpsing the sphere thing really adds a lot of pressure to players.
Some mechanics in certain trials seem to take longer to get used to.
Tsukoyomi is fairly simple too, it is another alternate debuff mechanic then adds some more stuff into it later.
I do not get wipes with Shinryu but plenty of deaths regardless. Tidal Wave somehow still gets people
