Aren't we all just repeating the same points though? this argument comes up all the time, there can't be many people here who haven't already said their piece.
You are right I do not get it, your side of the fence is making this into a much larger issue. Has very little to do with entitlement, more so I just rather not see certain things and with certain tools it is possible to make it so I do not see certain things. Trust me for the most part what others feel does not even a factor in the equation. Your side is interjecting themselves into the equation when the reality is as you have said you would not know, but the “potential” use of it is enough for you to lose sleep over. Which in the grand scheme is kinda weird. You don't seem to understand. It's not that I'm upset that people don't see my glamour, I'm upset that you think people are entitled to be able to see my property that I'm trying to hide. I'm hiding my equipment for a reason and it's none of your business to see it. Again, my property, my decision. You don't get to see them if I choose to hide them. It's privacy, it's not rocket science. And I would sleep better knowing that peeping is made more difficult to accomplished, not easier. Again, scale matters, 1 peeper in an ocean of people is no issue. But if the entire sea of people all gain access to peeping equipment and can use it without your knowing? Sure, I wouldn't know who are actually peeping, but it would make me extremely paranoid, knowing my privacy can be violated by anyone at will.
Let me repeat it once again, just in case I wasn't clear enough. It's privacy, you're not entitled to see what I'm trying to hide. If you want an option to hide other people's glamour, then give me an option to opt out of being affected by that option. Again, just an option right?
You say scale matters I will say this as someone that alters the appearance of characters and items within FFXIV it is far more common and not that difficult as many would like to make it. Sure if it was a made a feature then every console player would be able to do so, which would increase the scale but let us be real why let it bother you? If the many people on PC that already do it does not cause you to lose sleep, why in reality should everyone having the option to do so cause you to lose sleep?
It is you that is personally putting that pressure on yourself to feel violated. As mentioned you could easily just say meh no many are using the feature to the alter my appearance. As mentioned you would not really know so you get to create the narrative as to how many players will see what you are hiding. Though I will not lie your take is kinda weird, like end of the day it is just armor in a video game. Though will not lie it does make me want to create a character on your server and find ya, since I do wonder what exactly are you hiding under your glam. :P

That being my point. Before you bring in something like "yadda yadda mismatched glamour" or "muh immersion" or "muh expression" it would really make this place easier to navigate if you checked past posts to see if your particular position has been presented and discussed to your satisfaction, at least tertiarily.
To be certain I don't expect someone to exhaustively search the entire forum, but .. searching within this thread itself to see if you're repeating in the same thread the same sentiment would probably avoid even MORE fluff to run through.
Especially if your take is something assuming a wildly hyperbolic extension of any viewpoint presented, as that has been done to death.
Next to nobody here is having their entire game ruined by odd glamours. Next to nobody here will have an aneurysm if their character wasn't shown on everyone's screen exactly as intended. Mostly people just have the idea that this would be neat to have to maintain personal narrative and ideas of what the world is to them, and others feel uncomfortable with the idea that someone might do unpleasant things with their carefully crafted character. Both are valid but as the world is full of people as different as a wizened lala and a hatchling dragon it's going to be hard to make perspectives line up.
I'm replying because there HAVE been some worthwhile discussions within the hyperbolic mess and I think they warrant reading to get a good overall perspective.
WHERE IS THIS KETTLE EVERYONE KEEPS INTRODUCING ME TO?
"Why don't you let the government spy on you, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear", that's exactly what you sound like. And you already have the wonderful option of not seeing things you don't like, just look away, like you would in real life. If you don't like a movie, don't watch it. If you don't like some people, don't talk to them. You are right I do not get it, your side of the fence is making this into a much larger issue. "Just armor in a video game", yeah, exactly, get over it.
Let us be real we are talking a video game here not the the government. Though you are right I do have a wonderful option, I already alter the game files client side for my own game, I already found a solution that works for me."Why don't you let the government spy on you, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear", that's exactly what you sound like. Aye you are right I did get over my altering the appearance of things I found to be cringe in the video game. Modding is such a great and creative outlet.
In the end though I will say this if the government wants to spy on me go for it, at this point I am generally more afraid of the person that chooses to spy on me, my internet search history is rather weird as is my shopping history. I collect hentai hoodies. As I said though, I really want to see what you are hiding under that glam, want to meet up when the data center travel is open?
Then continue using your mod, I don't care about modding. And sorry to disappoint you, it's just a baggy robe.Let us be real we are talking a video game here not the the government. Not far off what I have replaced most items with, I choose that all class robe that counts as a helm and body. See that is the thing that gets me though, you do not care about mods, my guess is because you have no real sense of control over them correct? Or is it because the ToS provides some false sense of security due to it saying modifications break the ToS?
Though if mods themselves do not bother you, are you really just that worried over it becoming wide spread with an official option? Doesn’t that seem somewhat weird to you? I cannot be alone in thinking how come one option is okay, but another is not just because the latter option just increases the “potential” use of the feature but end of the day people will still not really know if someone is using the feature or not.
I don't care about mods the same way I don't "care" about crimes. I don't condone, but there is nothing I can do about it. If people really put their mind to it then there is no stopping them. And if people are bothered THAT much by skimpy outfits to the point that they have to resort to modding, then might as well just give it to them. Not far off what I have replaced most items with, I choose that all class robe that counts as a helm and body. That is fair I still do not get the selective level of care based around volume. I guess that is just human nature it is easier to disregard something if it has the perception to happen enfrequently enough. Just appears to be selective outrage to me.I don't care about mods the same way I don't "care" about crimes. I don't condone, but there is nothing I can do about it. As for final point if someone is bothered that much that they resort to modding and you can tolerate the fact that people desperate enough will use mods. Then why not give everyone the option?

I just treat these forums with the same philosophy as I treat other people's glamour in game, if I don't like it, I ignore it. The amount of people who use forums in the way you describe is either extremely low or non existent, admonishing us all and telling us how to internet won't change that. That being my point. Before you bring in something like "yadda yadda mismatched glamour" or "muh immersion" or "muh expression" it would really make this place easier to navigate if you checked past posts to see if your particular position has been presented and discussed to your satisfaction, at least tertiarily.

People will always go back and forth like this thread, and on a subject that is divisive it will keep rolling on like this one has. It's the nature of the beast if that annoys you then don't read it, because telling everyone how to internet is a futile exercise.
