    I think what many are struggling to accept is this:We all recognized that pet AI in this game has been absolutely awful. This isn't a secret, everyone knows it. We have let our thoughts be known about how bad they have been, and SE has done A LOT to try and fix it.

    And they have not been able to. Every new iteration of the controls of the fairies and the Egi's have been met with dislike and scorn from the fanbase and requests for another rework on them. At some point as a dev team you have to look at it and go "How much more time are we gonna sink into this problem, before maybe just acknowledging the problem isn't one we can fix, and the best way we could handle it is by removing the problem." That's what we are seeing with both SMN and SCH this expansion. SE finally saying "We've tried everything we got, it did not work. Pets are now there for flavor only."

    I think this is SE finally acknowledging they just will not be able to fix pets in this game and just stating they are there for flavor and lore reasons only. Demi's also seem to have become less interactive as it looks like they no longer attack when the smn attacks and also don't follow your movements, the only action you make them do is Enkindle outside of that they spit out damage on their own.

    Which look I get why that frustrates some. I get why people who really love pet based mechanics would feel really angered about this. But I also can get why at some point continuously trying to fix something that is broken to shit over and over again just is no longer reasonable.

    Now that the pet is streamlined and there are no egis it would be nice to finally see the pet glamour they promised years ago, especially since it's really only cosmetic now.

    I mean if you want to be technical. FF summoners were mostly white mages, excluding Rydia, that can summon.
    Even in 5 and tactics, you wanted backup magic because summoning was costly and long.

    The only game that had a pure summoner was FF3 with Evoker/ Summoner and well Sage was outright better because it could use summon magic and black and white magic.

    Now that I think about it. If Egi's no longer matter or have a major part to play for the Summoner.. What will happen to all the job quests that unlocks the egi now? since they dont mean anything anymore, egis doesnt matter what so ever. Now it would be getting the gems to channel each primal mode or something.. which... is... sighhh... not the same as unlocking a pet.. im greiving rn it was one of the more interesting things about SMN job quests, to unlock and use the pet when leveling SMN :'(

    So, apparently the tooltips for the gem summons are level 90. This implies they're upgrades to something previous.

    You probably still have Egis, but the Egis 'grow up' into gem summons later; probably due to some sort of coexistance with the carbuncle.

    I suppose they'll retcon a lot of job lore stuff though?

    They are removing the sects from Astro among other things that look like would mess up job quest lore...

    There are only a handful of times that the lore wouldn't work in the quests. Specifically when your egi manifest outside of combat. Examples like when trying to track down who's killing people Mhitra asking you to summon Ifrit or when Titan manifests to save you from enemy Hellfire

    I wonder if, since Carbuncle will now be your main pet for Arcanist and Summoner, if the Arcanist Deep Dungeon sprite (one of only two starting class Dungeon sprites that are different from the full job's sprite, the other being Archer), which shows an Emerald Carbuncle instead of a Garuda-Egi, will be also used for Summoner's Deep Dungeon sprite?

    Can anyone else even see Titan, Ifrit and Garuda that pop up for two seconds? I thought they said something about them only being seen by the player. If so, this change is disappointing.
