not all of them, if you check all the gear:

craft pants +15 craftsmanship (you can survive w/o but with it you can use another piece of gear for more M craftsmanship)

the 3 shield (grid got the best block rate of 168 or so while Uldah got the best dmg reduce and the LL is both and give +10 atk power)

    2 rings

Chocobo gear at 1.21 (useless, but they will be decent at 2.0 and you cant craft them, only buy from GC)

end of the line: look at the vision the game is heading

edit : forgot the shield at grid as well +10 m accuracy, decent for THM

Sure there is the odd one or two pieces. Maybe I should have said most instead of all.

What I would like to see is class specific NPC retailers upstairs in each grand company that you can buy with tokens you get from bosses.

U/U Gear should be comparable to craftabe gear with 2 melds. (or like the OP suggests)

I'm with Duuude on this, allowing single materia on U/U gear is the best logical simple solution to enhance U/U gear on par with single/double crafted gear.

How? Explain please. Lets say i have Mitts of the lone knight and can put 1 materia on them. Which would most likely be STR or attack materia. Why waste my time getting those gloves and putting one materia on them when i could spend less time double melding some Felt bracer's with 40+ attack or 40+ str or even 20+ attack or 20+ str. So how is melding 1 materia to U/U items gonna help?

i say just allow the same materia guidelines as crafted gear. if someone want to take the chance to blow up their u/u go ahead. x2 meld wont make much difference anyway.

That's the problem tho even if you could meld the U/U gear it still wont be better than crafted that's my whole point.

Show me an example where having materia on U/U gear would make it better than crafted. I gave an example in the post above so enlighten me please.

your example shows only being able to put one materia on, i would put 2.

And those mitts still would not be better tho -.-. If you could use the melee body from DH and it could be upgraded which has str and dex on it i think. That body would sought out for cause str materia cannot be put in that slot. U/U gear should offer good stats on armor where materia could not be attached, like having boots with int on them.

For example Sephi(think that's right) Turban is a great piece but the stats on it is so low its hardly noticeable. Why couldn't that head piece have like +15~20 str on it?
