So because some "muscians" are being obnoxious bell ends claiming they are ace when in fact they are using a tool to make good music , which is not just douchery grade level omega , its also rare.
You want all tools banned , so that you can feel like you're a max achiever?
What about the troupes that do utterly amazing orchestras on some servers , including well choreographed dance moves in time with the music? They use tools because the timing to do so would be impossible to do just by shout queues via discord
Found a twitch stream where one of these amazing concerts took place : https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1095487712?t=05h19m33s
I think... It's painfully obvious if someone uses a tool or actually plays themselves.
I don't quite get the overshadow part.
Whay do you learn to play the things? Attention really the only reason? ^^
Let people have their fun..., you're allowed to have yours too.
And hey, Art is about passion and if you're passionate, you'll get an audience.

If you have ever used a synthesiser, a Korg, a Yamaha, any of a hundred Casio keyboards, Moogs, Mellotrons, you would know they are programmable and capable of managing and playing a melodic line or counterpoint or descant whilst the player concentrates on another part of the entire piece of music. It doesn't matter who plays it, but it should matter as if you are actually playing it. Mainly for my main complaint "PRETENDING you are playing it, but aren't". There are people who like to gloat and pretend they are this wild performer, but are letting illegal tools play the song for them. Like the music or not, that IS an unfair advantage for people who don't.
How do i know?
I was selling them back when Moogs and early model Casio keyboards first emerged, more than forty years ago.
Jean Michel Jarre, Rick Wakeman for two used these programmable systems all the time. Again, I know, i saw them both in concert, I remember when Wakeman bounced lasers off the steel and glass skyscrapers in Los Angeles, when he performed White Rock for the Olympics.
To this day, those visions remain with me, music and technology hand on hand.
"It matters not that a song is sung, a piece of music is played, the greater tragedy lies in the loss of that music, that moment of joy, music exists in the heart and soul of the listener and the one who brings that music. From bard to bard, so the dreams woven into melody do not vanish with the passage of time." - a rock guitarist from my younger days. And again, I get it, some might not be musically talented, and if you just want to play songs for yourself/friends, then whatever fine, but I draw the line going into public spaces and pretending you are so great, and even possibly receiving tips for letting software play a song for you.
My good and gentle friend, one does not listen to wonderful music and then pick apart how it is played. What matters is regardless of how, or where, or by who, that moment of beauty is remembered, and treasured. At that point, you are not the performer, but a MP3 player at that point. Would you go to a concert in real life and be okay with a singer not really singing a song? Or if an orchestra wasn't really playing their instruments but letting some software play it for them while pretending they are? Probably not. I know it's a bit different via FFXIV, but that, for me, means a lot.
"Do not ignore passion or beauty when it is offered...especially when it calls you by name" - Marcus, Babylon 5.

It is no more a bot than a macro is.

So let me get this straight. You want Square Enix to ban people providing free entertainment to people doing the most unique thing in an MMO that I have seen in like 20 years for the integrity of the craft?
You realize there is not a damn thing stopping you from recording your sessions and posting them on Youtube with the keyboard on screen or whatever you guys uses showing the manual inputs and training people.

So then don't bard if what other people are doing is affecting you to the point that you had to come here and make a post about it. All it did was make it come off like you're envious and want everyone to be exactly the same as you/want all the head pats and good jobs to yourself.I get it, some people aren't musically talented enough, some just want to play songs, and I feel that is fine if you are just playing for your friends and such.
But what bothers me is when you pretend you ARE playing songs and acting as if you are so great because you let a third party tool play it for you.
It's really annoying walking into towns and just hearing it sound like people just throw midi keyboards down a flight of stairs.
There are people, such as myself, who actually practice playing these songs, and we get immediately overshadowed by people who just press play on a program. There is no competition, we lose because it's impossible for us to play songs at a normal place without either conforming to third party software ourselves, or hooking up an actual midi keyboard (which I would be more okay with!).
I think the bard macro playing has gotten way out of hand. It's really annoying and off putting.
Playing songs is one of my favorite things to do in FFXIV, I practice for hours every single day, and now I have to turn off performance completely because it just isn't fun anymore trying to play music for people, but getting immediately decimated by someone who can press play, make a sandwich and come back without putting any effort into learning any song what so ever.
Side note, on the topic of tips, I've been barding for well over 4-5 months now and have gotten 2 tips of 10k gil. I think you're also incredibly out of touch on how much money bards are making on the street. You're not missing anything. If you want money, go get a job at a venue.
Barding is about having fun and entertaining people, it's not a competition and has never been one. The point is to make people happy. If you're truly considering it a competition, perhaps find a new hobby that doesn't give you such negative feelings.

That sounds like you are jealous of this program being a better musician than you are.

We should just have in game tools to put songs together like Mario Paint.
PS4 users could then get in on the fun too.

One of the most petty post I've seen in a while.
