    Given the recent influx of new players...

    Devs should implement a AFK -> Log Out system.

    For those who dont know, when a new expansion is released a similar feature is enabled to avoid server congestion. What it means is that the moment your character hits the 30-minute inactive status, the system automatically logs you out.

    While it is a less-than-ideal solution, it should help with the current situation veterans and new players alike are facing. Even if the number of players afk in servers amount only to a couple of hundreds (check Limsa, Eulmore and Gangos just to have an idea), forcing them to exit the game - and therefore stoping loading all the data associated with said characters, from retainers to gear for instance - would lessen the burden some servers are having and reduce the queue even if by a small margin.

    Again, this is not the best solution. Better/ More servers are the solution. But unfortunately it wont happen overnight. The AFK -> Log Out system can.

    I think it's something to consider until the server equipment is upgraded.

    SE usually adds an autologout system at the launch of each expansion for a few months due to the excess of players at that time... but it's always very easily overridden (because the parameter for the autologout to work is someone being idle, that is, just standing around passively, simply having the character's weapon drawn out but still idle overrides that), so the whole thing became moot.

    It helped a little in the past, but it's never been the magic bullet to reduce login queue times I'm afraid.

    It does cut out a ton of people though who don't know how to do it (aka new players) and will free up the servers a bit due to that and as soon as queues are shorter, no one will care about getting logged out due to AFKing.

    They need to change it to simply force you out no matter what.

    It should be on all the time anyway. Save some server load by kicking people who aren't even actually playing.

    SE won't bother implementing a server-side check for it because nothing stops a player from just taping a thumbstick to keep your character rotating. We can argue "oh let's detect that then" but players will quickly find a workaround for that. If the current automatic logout system they use isn't doing the trick, SE can always resort to the simultaneous logout measures they employed during Stormblood launch to forcefully kick all players out.

    Having your weapon drawn will not prevent it. Anything that prevents you from executing /logout will, because the afk logout function simply executes that command with a 20s delay parameter.
