Harassment to Asmongold on his 1st day stream is an Embarassment to FF Community

I'm going to say this again, once again, because people keep being so bloody stupid. NOBODY WAS SAYING THEY WEREN'T FFXIV PLAYERS, WE'RE ALL TAKING ISSUE WITH PEOPLE BLAMING THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY! ONLY 1 SERVER OUT OF 8 HAS ACCESS TO THAT WORLD, ONLY 300 PEOPLE ARE ALLOWED IN A MAP AT A TIME! STOP USING THOSE PEOPLE TO LABEL THE REST OF THE MILLIONS OF FFXIV PLAYERS AS TOXIC! Bolded because people still don't seem to get that.

And the thing you seem not to get is that Asmon is famous and was at the front page of Twitch at the time. For the millions of people who watched the stream and don't play FFXIV, that was their first look into the community. To them, those 300 players were the representatives of the FFXIV community. Do you think they'd be inclined to start playing if they see they can't load into different maps or progress their quests because people will snipe your mobs?

IMO 9 day ban was too forgiving considering the long term damage they've caused. Those people should have got IP banned and their credit cards blacklisted so that they'd at least have to jump through hoops before being able to make another account.

They'd be fools for thinking it was like that based on a single streamer. Free trial and all, they can check for themselves.

Then explain it to those people. Don't lash out in the FFXIV forum to FFXIV players who know better that Asmongold's experience is not the typical experience.

Then again, some of those who watched the streams might be intelligent enough to know that, and some of them might even have seen similar behaviors in the past with Asmongold or other celebrities.

Asmon was only on one server, in one area at any given time. Same thing would've happened on any other server, and if more people could've been on to harass him at a time then more people would've been involved

Also, no ones blaming the entire community. People are, however, pointing out the fact that this games community has the same toxicity as every other online game. The idea that this community is better/nicer than the usual online fare has been circulating for a while, and stuff like this goes a long way towards breaking that myth. FFXIV players have a tendency to act like this community has some kind of moral high-ground, so it is interesting to watch that illusion shatter when put to the test.

FFXIV did have an opportunity here to prove it's community was actually above this kind of targeted harassment, but that didn't quite pan out.

I posted in the thread that he was coming to the game that what I've heard is that his community can be pretty toxic at times. Meaning I myself have stated that they can be pretty bad at times (meaning they're good at other times).

First, the fact that SE works harder to keep it's toxic community in check is great, but that only reflects positively on SE, not the community. This isn't a "better" community; it's a typical toxic online community that is being ruled with an iron fist in-game. Kudos to SE, but the community still is what it is.

It's almost a testament to how toxic FFXIV is underneath, that even under SE's prison camp leadership that this communities toxic elements were still so pervasive when given a little motivation. One pseudo-celebrity playing for a couple of days and people are willing to lose their accounts just to be jerks; it definitely says something about the community.

Not saying that every single person in the community is bad, but the community as a whole has no moral-high ground to use against any other online game.
