The great streamer Asmongold is joining FFXIV

I honestly don't have strong feelings about this. On the one hand, someone is trying ffxiv, which is nice. On the other hand I've seen his videos and I don't think he will like it much. Or rather I don't think the streamer Asmongold will like it, I think the man behind the streamer might be able to get into it if he didn't have to feed his chat. A lot of his criticism of the game being weeb seems to be just to feed his chat. Can't really blame him for it since keeping his chat rabid is what pays his bills. And at the end of the day paying your bills is more important than being objective about a game in a youtube video or twitch stream.

I suspect that he'll likely play FFXIV when he's not streaming for the money if he actively enjoys it himself. Tbh I haven't heard good things about the people who follow him, and how they've actively harassed other former WoW streamers for liking FFXIV (hearsay is all I've heard tbh).

Here's my take on him.
At first he comes off as rough, very binary. Either something is awesome or it sucks.
But the more I've watched him lately, I see that he's at least fair about it, especially when comparing WoW with FFXIV. If he thinks something in FF looks cool or is a good idea, he'll say so. He's just really *really* quick to dismiss something immediately out of hand, if it doesn't tickle him right away. He can't get past cat-girls.. just creeps him out.

I'll be interested to see where it goes but, I agree with someone above.. the ARR storyline and pace.. he wants to jump into endgame and raids as soon as he can.. but we all know that won't happen.
On a recent video he asked how long, once reaching max level, he can get BIS for everything and due to the nature of weeklythings, six weeks, he was "ok, I can live with that..".

There are now many video series' on youTube of WoW players (10 or more year vets) coming over to FFXIV, trying it, and having a blast. You never know, he may end up liking it. I hope so.

Like most people, he's changed with time.

I don't think the main concern players here have is Asmongold. The concern is his viewers and what some of them will likely do if they follow him in creating an account to play the game. SE won't put up with the things that Blizzard ignores but it could make things unpleasant for a few days while the GMs deal with any problems.

As for him liking it? I honestly don't think he will. It's not his style in the long run. If there was any chance he himself thought he'd like it, he probably would already be playing offline for his own enjoyment. Instead, he's approaching it like a job his employer (the viewers who donate to him) have asked him to do.

One thing I've noticed in the videos I've watched from other content creators who are switching from WoW is that they all have previous experience with past Final Fantasy games. They hadn't picked up FFXIV before because they were too invested in WoW as their MMO.

Sorry but I have zero faith in him playing through ARR. He might last a couple of dungeons, but his chat community is more toxic than the toxiest FFXIV community by ten folds.
