They've gotten really expensive and the demand for using them has grown with Castrum, DR and Dal with those working on notes and mettle honors. Many would have stopped running Dal if it wasn't for the notes. At least they increased the fragment drops in Castrum.

Any essence is better than no essence. Even that evasion one that doesn't increase your dps at all directly. Can be solid. You can literally dodge doom with it from certain mechanics and if that keeps you alive instead of dead its still a dps increase. Hell even justnusing beastmaster on a dps hob to help keep you alive is better than nothing. Hell it might even mean that healer in your party can use profane. They are not easy to get. There are (as of now) 36 Fragments (with extremely confusing names) you can get. With no information whatsoever in the game where to get them. And buying them on the MB is not an option for a lot of players. Take for example the Skirmisher essence (the only really usable essence for most physical dps jobs), that drops from Sagacity which goes for 10k per fragment on my server. The last time I bought a stack (99) I got 13 Skirmishers out of it. Paying 1 mio gil for that is simply not an option for a lot of players neither is spending hours mindlessly killing mobs for clusters.
The devs really took the worst aspects of the Lost Logos system from Eureka and made it way worse for the casual players.
Sure, a run will go a lot faster with essences/action but then SE shouldn't created such a complex and unintuitive system if they expect the average player to use it.
Some of those perceived weaker ones can actually be pretty good when you use them with a banner As well.
And you still have things like font of magic or font of power that can them selves be pretty solid to use..
You get so many that there no reason not to use something
Yeah I wouldn't use them for an instance I'm not going to stay in long, or for DR (doubly so because pure duelist outclasses it by a mile without having to dedicate a slot to the otherwise lackluster Assassinate) but at least the recent changes to fragment drops mean that you get 6+4 of the fragments per CLL run, so you can expect around 3 of them for every time you get past Adrammalech unless the prisoners die or something silly.
You can get dmg up essences by basicly walking outside the gate of Bozjan southern front and aoe kill 8 mobs right outside the gate and get like 40 essences in 10 minutes time. The players who dont use essences are straight up lazy or just clueless on how the system works.
White Mage works wonders for this just tag every mob with the dot and spam holy aoe.
I've farmed Zadnor for mettle, field notes and Daliadra since they came out and I have exactly 3 Lost Assassination in my cache. That is not my definition of "not difficult to get".
Have spied at my Lodestone profile, haven't you ? Just because I can or want spent some real time on the games or willing to spent gil doesn't mean that other players have the same luxury (like for example the OP). In case you have forgotten (like most of the people on this forum) there such a think as understanding other people plight ....
Oh, I use essences and actions but I don't judge against players that don't do so. And it's not a carry, you can perfectly clear DR without any of them.
Beating a dead horse at this point.
All you have to do is use the dang essences CJ!
I love how this thread is:
"What are the sentiments on this topic?"
followed by a rant about why anyone who has a different opinion to the poster is wrong, should stop being hostile and get lost and join a fixed party in party finder
"Thoughts?"
followed by subsequently attacking every comment that disagrees with their view
...Got to love the forums sometimes.
I've used essences most my DR runs. I've noticed no noticable difference to clear speeds or survivability based solely on my use. It came down to if the majority used them, then the clear speed was faster, if not, then it wasn't. This remained true whether or not I was using one. I'm not going to tell anyone else to use a limited use item based on RNG in a non PF pug group.
"Why should I put the shopping cart back? It's extra effort that doesn't benefit or reward me at all."
