Exclusivity and the potential downfall of the game.

First of all I get it and while it may be considered click bait, here me out. what is the meaning of "exclusivity" (the practice of excluding or not admitting other things.) relic weapons in every Final Fantasy have never been an easy acquisition. But given how amazing our devs are they try to help. yes it's normally at the end of an exp when nothing really "matters". but if it doesn't matter then why bother at all? because once how "easy" the relic quest is introduced then it doesn't matter if you raid or don't.. You can simply just wait till the end and invalidate everyone else's hard work, and get your best weapon. This is just a minor gripe I have with the game. I love this game but I feel like they accommodate a little too much to the "casual" player.. If you've struggled for months on E12S and finally got that clear and the achieve.. It wouldn't matter 6months later when another group worse than you got it simply by waiting and getting the casual buffs.. I know they listen to player feed back but things like this go outside raids! "exclusive" events!? that are supposed to be ONE TIME THINGS.. all of a sudden come back because ppl missed them... I get it.. I'm just saying if EVERYONE can eventually get EVERYTHING.. Then don't hype it as "exclusive" because chances are if 9/10 of you missed any event you can eventually buy the rewards off the mogstation.

Gosh wouldn't it be a great idea if things just became unobtainable for no reason other than to fluff the ego of people who don't want others to eventually get them with slightly less effort?

Your post went in a few different directions, so I'm not entirely sure what the point is you are trying to make. Are you simply venting? Cause then it would make sense. Somewhat.

    Eh... who cares?

Unlike some (if not most) other MMORPGs, FFXIV isn't built upon prestige and competition. It's built upon the experience and in general is far more cooperative. Things being more readily available after they're no longer relevant is not a bad thing, they're still there for those who want to put the time and effort in; heck, for the most part the only advantage (from a glamour perspective) is that the higher difficulty content drops stuff that's dyeable.

That being said, I'd argue that introducing prestige items would be more harmful than beneficial. Because the worst sort of players are those looking for SOMETHING to feed their ego for the purpose of boasting and gloating (not that they'd ever call it that). It's best to deny them that opportunity, and everyone else is more happy as a result.

I think people should seek to obtain something in a video game because they desire it rather than because they think it is 'exclusive'. That way when it inevitably becomes easier to obtain they won't be bothered because other people get to enjoy whatever it is as well.

The only form of exclusivity I really support in a video game is the sort with a compromise in the form of time gating. So there's maybe a period where people get to enjoy it 'exclusively' and then later on it's made available to everybody who desires it. Sometimes that still requires effort, sometimes it's a freebie. Though it generally works out in my opinion when such an approach is taken.

The rewards themselves are not everything.

Some people like to talk about the journey in an RPG, or that endgame should not be the entire game. And that's the same kind of idea here.

If all you focus on are the weapons/armors/etc., then they're just digital goods. The real value in them is what you put into them.

People getting them easier later is irrelevant, unless you don't enjoy doing difficult contents and just wanted the rewards. If that's the case, then yes, just wait. But if you enjoy doing difficult contents, then you get the satisfaction of doing that and getting the respective rewards.

And keep in mind that this is a vertical progression game. Forget about people getting the items you got easier. You'll have items that will drop from easier contents that will be more powerful than your rewards from older and supposedly more difficult contents. That doesn't invalidate the hard work you did in the past, because it's all about enjoying the game in the moment.

And does the game actually "hype" anything as being exclusive? I'm not aware of it if so.

It sounds like you are asking for Ultimate. It drops exclusive glamours and you cannot brute force it. Only the best players can even unlock it.

It's not about the items getting "easier" it's about having the items themselves that "prove" you went through the hardships to back up your story!
ppl in this game are so apposed to the difficulty because this game is all about the "story" that they forget there are actual challenges.

You get to do that in the moment. If you have E12S weapon in patch 5.4, then you've proven yourself. Having E12S weapon in 6.0 is irrelevant. You can also open up your achievements to the public so they can see when you achieved them.
