    Honestly, considering we're going to the Moon itself, and I just saw an image of those adorable "Loporrits", I feel like I could 100% see them helping instruct us on the way to learning this mysterious new "Lunar magic".

    To me, it kind of all ties together beautifully, as the Scimitar is already the shape of a crescent moon, you could introduce more "space" abilities like Comet, Meteorain, maybe even a dash ability like "Shooting Stars", temporarily turning into a bunch of.... shooting stars, to rush a short distance while invulnerable. Primarily a damage role, but weaving a few melee abilities in with some spellcasting.

    Something I feel would be kind of a cool niche, is maybe they give off a sort of "ambient energy" or "aura", only to allows in their IMMEDIATE vicinity (like melee-range), maybe passively increasing their base recovery or even increasing "healing/damage-over-time" spells, so instead of the usual melee where they're trying to stand behind or to the side of an enemy, they would be encouraged to stand right by the Tanks, but also needing to be more mindful of dodging abilities.

    I mostly just like the idea of something a little more mobile, that isn't penalized for moving while "casting". Seems like it could be a fun change of pace!

    This was largely my hope for EW instead of Reaper. I was hoping we'd see a sort of reverse red mage where your main source of power is using magic to buff your melee and you're encouraged to spend most of your time in melee range. Maybe even actually have a melee class that uses MP similar to how melee classes used to use TP. Heck, maybe even just make it a full on melee ranged caster that uses casting gear.

    I love the archetype of a 'spellsword' class..but i'm not sure if such design is appropriate for FFXIV.
    Once i played as spellsword in kingdom under fire 2...felt amazing
    a mixture between AST and RDM would be interesting tho

    Read the OP and skimmed the rest so sorry if this has been said already.

    I would enjoy the idea of a melee-DPS job that either focuses on weaponskills and have magic phases (the inverse of RDM if you will) or just a 50/50 mix of the two, perhaps even creating a combo system of weaponskills and spells. I'd be in favor of unique support abilities like a melee-range instant cast "spell" that heals the user on hit (for maybe say, 50% damage) and provides a shield to nearby party members equal to the same amount. Or, to add complexity to it, have the "spell" change its support effect depending on a buff provided by the last combo they performed. Maybe it provides a shield to the user and mitigation to nearby party members, etc. Something like that I feel could get really creative. Assuming you'd want the job to have some interesting support elements not currently employed by other jobs.

    As for a weapon for the "knight" be it mystic, lunar, or otherwise, I think a shield bearing dps job would fit the mold of what our current dps roster is missing. Though, a spear and shield I think offers a more unique take on it.

    Same. But I knew it is now impossible now that RDM is here. it would be too similar. My Hope is though that they would rework RDM to be more of a melee oriented mage towards a spellsword.

    Yeah. I quite enjoy RDM at the moment but I'd rather see this sort of rework to the job as opposed to the bumbling sort of expansion that some other jobs have gotten in the past when they reach their theoretical cap. Outside of the unrewarding feeling AoE component, RDM is in a very good place right now so I'd rather see them do a complete reimagining of the job than just try to staple more things onto something that already works.

    I really thought reaper was gonna be a mytic knight type job, fighting with curved blades. I think they choose Reaper though for marketing purposes. It will be a bigger draw than mystic knight, even though mystic knight would be really cool.
