I don't have to prove that individual people don't represent the entire population. Every population contains jerks. Your take away is "look this how horrible the entire gaming population of FFXIV is!" .. mine is "some people are jerks that doesn't mean they're all jerks."

Your point isn't any more salient than all those people you quoted using experiences with horrible people in a streamers fanbase to represent the entirety of the fanbase.

The fact you included a couple of.. well.. lets be charitable: Questionably genuine forum members, doesn't help lend any validity.

Ativan, korekera, and Drakonic are all so known at this point that including them in any "HAH THIS is proof that XIV is a bad community!" Is like grabbing the class clown from one school and going "HAH! THIS is proof that all students are horrible!"

Forums attract contentious folks. We're not representative of the community at large, there are at most 70-80 people active on the forums outside of technical support or lore discussion. We're representative of the extremely small subset of the community that is more willing to argue and nip at each other. And even smaller still is the subset of the community that comes on here just to troll.

Meanwhile i still see people both on the forums,reddit, and in game bash on WoW players constantly. Idk why people still try to defend it when it’s literally a known major problem. Our community sucks. It’s a cesspool of toxicity hidden behind a shiny piece of plastic with glitter and stickers on it. Just because people try to keep it underwraps doesn’t make it any less true. The fact people sent death threats and tried to physically harass an ex wow veteran simply because he gave an opinion on the game should speak volumes. You can argue all you want that “that doesn’t represent our community,” but when it happens multiple times, yeah sorry but one time is an accident, a second time isn’t. Don’t give me that crap.

And those people are horrible people. But there are horrible people in EVERY community - and as much as you hate it when people say it doesn't represent the community - IT DOESN'T. This is a community with around 1mil active players. You cannot in good faith write off one million active players as a "horrible community" just because there are a select few cases of people WITHIN that community acting out and behaving extremely inappropriately.

FFXIV community is a meme though GCBTW, is how a many others view us because of those minority posters. The reality is yes if someone saw something crazy multiple times many would attribute that behavior the community at large.

To be fair, people in FFXIV are also bashing FFXIV, and replace WoW in there anywhere for the reverse and it's true.

From what I understand, you don't kill off characters unless they serve their purpose, they are meant to be killed of/be fodder, or if their death has a purpose; like to motivate a character. So the way I see it the characters aren't killed off because they still have something to offer. But, the Fake Deaths do need to stop. Its kind of a cheap way to get someone invested just to be all "Just kidding"...especially twice or 3+ times

The problem is when they build up certain lore points but then completely drop them and create plot holes just to keep a character alive (aka Graha where this was done multiple times) and also Yshtola. That’s when it’s ridiculous. It isn’t so much the non deaths as it is them going back on their own built lore points and plot and completely ignore what they’ve set up to keep someone alive. It really does feel like we’re playing some slice of life anime game where there’s no consequences for anyone other than the antagonists. It makes things very stale.

My take on Asmongold coming is this: Firstly, everyone, regardless of who they are, is entitled to their opinion. It doesn't make it right but opinions are rarely ever right if we're being fair here. Secondly, I have played WoW. It was a short stint and I have people I am friends with that play it still. I know that the devs have used it as a basis from which to base some of their development process off of. So Blizzard had to get something right, even if the game is decades old.

Now I do not follow the man. Most of anything I've seen is piece-meal from YouTube and while I don't care for his overall attitude in some instances I am sure he may be right as long as he has his long time gaming opinion aimed in the right direction. Not the "Let's burn it down! It's killing WoW!" mob screaming in his ears. BelluarGaming actually said it best on his YouTube channel. Asmongold shouldn't stream XIV. He should play it on his own, no sideline, get into a FC and play with other XIV players and not tell anyone who he is and then give his thoughts on the game. That way it will be fair to him and the game. That's my two cents on the matter.

I think this is less of "WoW cant hold anything for them anymore" and more of "WoW hasnt had any new content in 6 months".

Not really. I exhausted all the casual content in WoW in two months only because they had a time gate on the casual content. Now that the time gate is gone, a new player can exhaust it in about two weeks. All progression beyond that is locked behind timed Mythic+ dungeon runs and Heroic Raids. Even if they'd had new content a month ago, there would still have been three months where I had nothing to do. I'm just not a fan of the go-go-go dungeon running mentality that is required to succeed in modern-day WoW.
