I like the idea in principle, only reason I'm against it, is the only thing that really makes Danny interesting to me is the idea that he's not what he seems and is doing exactly what he claims "putting on a play" I want to know what the "twist" is and I just feel it would be a little deflating if it was just that there wasn't one.Okay so this is just a theory i contemplated recently but what if Fandaniel's real name is
Thanatos
It would fit with the Ascians having names based on the Greek Pantheon and Fandaniels ultimate plan being to kill everything, what with Thanatos being the god of death plus it would further tie in with Zenos being a reaper. They could also do a Secret of Mana reference with his final form perhaps even being fought in that Lapuda like zone as a callback to the fortress of mana.
Everything he's done both to us and even to Zenos, though to him he dose it in a more "knowing wink" kind of way has come over as an act and I'm waiting for the mask to slip.

Heh, that'd be like what just happened in Castlevania season 4.
The mention of it just being theatrics reminds me that people are saying that about Bad Elf Dad. Wonder how people will react if neither is actually just doing theatrics.

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore

I don't really see it with "bad elf dad" or at least I'd be disappointed if it was him disowning them, not the rest, it's clear Sharlean sent him there to send some kind of a message/put on a show, but his treatment of them to me literally serves no purpose that wouldn't come across as contrived, unless he's evil and did it to hurt them/ensure they come charging to him into a trap, then it works and I'll hit him all the harder when the narrative allows.
Danny on the other hand is so stage play he might as well be in costume, this is also supposed to be the end of the season one story, so a motivation of "Kill everything!" would have been fine, if his stay would have been as brief the person's body he's currently occupying, but he's still here, several patches later, so I hope it's a little more than that, even Zenos is more than that, and his's had one goal for an entire expansion.

I’m going to say “called it!”
We’ve met some scummy people in this game. If a new guy rolls up and all but yells “I, too, am scum!” I will believe him until I get a good enough reason not to.
“Oh well, we tried. I guess I better get out of Eorzea before they start having EF5s every day.“

An issue I have is the game is very blatantly not letting us believe what people are saying. Fandaniel literally says "don't bother trying to talk me out of destroying the world, I will not explain nor listen", and then in 5.5 Estinien asks us if we're going to talk to Fandaniel anyway and all three responses are variations of "yes".

I was so mad about that. The WoL should know by now that there are those you just can’t sit down for tea and nicely ask to change their ways -especially the ones who come right out and tell you they’re not thirsty. (Heck, I already did a whole job quest about accepting this! I ugly laughed when [redacted] started trying to lecture me!)An issue I have is the game is very blatantly not letting us believe what people are saying. While you're right, as Estinien rightfully put it "Not everyone can be reasoned with" we won't know if Danny is one of those until we try, if every protagonist listened to every antagonist that said some variation of "don't try and stop me!" without even trying, many stories would have ended before they began.I was so mad about that. You never really know till you try, after all, Danny may have said he won't listen, but that doesn't mean much, Emet acted amicable, yet in the end refused to listen and we only managed to come to an understanding after our fight to the death, Elidibus was supposed to be a negosiator, yet he took an even more rigid stance than Emet, once again only able to come to any kind of consensus after the death battle and having his memory restored. By that logic, the twist would be if Danny ends up being our most receptive foe, but even if he isn't, we won't know unless we at least try, telling the WoL "No!" has never really been an effective means of stopping us.
From a psychological stand point, anyone that says "Don't bother trying to talk me out of...." really just wants someone to talk them out of it. It's the classic call for help. So the WOL's response to ultimately try and talk him down is kind of justified. An issue I have is the game is very blatantly not letting us believe what people are saying. Again, that isn't the serious issue at hand. It's pretty clear from the scenes where Fandaniel is interacting with Zenos that he has an alterative motive and will be acting on it in the expansion. So what you are reading into is the epitome of theater to throw the heroes of the trail (because any time you see "meanwhile" is plot developments for the player not their character, specifically).

I never trusted or expected to reach an understanding with two members of the group whose goal is to cause calamities and kill everybody, especially not with Emet saying things like “it’s not murder if I kill you” and “my goals are unchanged.” Every third quest, I was waiting for them to drop the act and attack me, so when shenanigans happened it was in no way shocking. While you're right, as Estinien rightfully put it "Not everyone can be reasoned with" we won't know if Danny is one of those until we try, if every protagonist listened to every antagonist that said some variation of "don't try and stop me!" without even trying, many stories would have ended before they began.

Fanboy has already put up his towers around the world, trapped people in them, summoned primals, caused lots of death and has the machinery in place to cause a lot more, and isn’t even pretending to want dialogue like the last two Ascians. Plus his partner/patron is the guy who wants to destroy the world to get a big pointless backdrop for his big pointless fight. He isn’t acting like he wants to be talked to, he’s acting like he wants his head caved in posthaste.
