Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

Just a quick update:

Yoshi P addressed this issue in a new interview with a German website.

Viera/Hrothgar hair/hats:

Q: You announced that Male Viera will be added in 6.0. A lot of players are still waiting for additional hairstyles or the option to wear hats on Viera or Hrothgar, are these being worked on and potentially introduced with the addition of Male Viera?
Short A: Not yet
Long A: First off, the reason why Viera and Hrothgar can't wear hats right now is the following. We have very standardized specifications when it comes to head gear and the unique design with the long ears on Viera doesn't always meet these specifications. If we allowed every head gear piece, it would lead to clipping or other errors. The unique design of Viera and Hrothgar just prevents us from allowing these pieces, if we want to follow our specifications. Nevertheless, we are aware of player feedback and we are definitely not the kind of dev team that ignores their players feedback. There were a few things we said would be immpossible to do, but we worked hard on it and made it possible in the end. We have regular meetings, I was in one just yesterday and we're planning on having another one this upcoming week, where we discuss how to lower development costs or which options we have to add more hairstyles. The players can be assured that we are aware and are thinking about this, but I am asking for a bit more patience and that you wait a little longer. I hope to have some good news soon.

So while it's not a "it's all coming in 6.0", at least they're actively trying to figure it out and work on it according to Yoshi P.
Personally I can sort of understand the hat situation but in that case I feel like if they can't figure out the hats issue then we should at least be getting some new hairstyles.

Alright, so neither are they working on hairs, they don't have any set plans to start doing so at any point yet.

It's a good thing I am back on my miqo'te now, it looks like. Nothing for EW for viera in terms of hair. Maybe in another two and a half years.

I don't wanna press YoshiP, after he's making Male Viera a reality. What I will say though is that I don't understand how Viera's heads are anything special when Miqo'te get hairstyles and headgear adjusted to them all the time, same with Elezen, Lalafel, and even Au ra. Viera wouldn't be the only ones whom headgear is adjusted for (resized/earholes/angled, etc).

I don't want them to break their backs adding everything. But when I see new gear/hairstyles not added to female Viera it's like what?
At this point I'll just hold them to more hairstyles for female Viera, as that's a real glaring problem that is not too much to ask. They don't even need to create brand new hairstyles; modify old ones and add them slowly over time. They put themselves in this situation by saying they will create unique race-locked hairstyles for Viera/Hrothgar. When it's preferable and easier in terms of money and time to just modify the existing ones on Viera and Hrothgar. Well maybe not Hrothgar...considering how their hair/head thing works.

Thank you for sharing. What I don't get is that they mention Viera ears as one of the reasons for not adding hats, but I'm a bit puzzled as to why Hrothgar can't wear them. I understand their snout/muzzle can get in the way for some full helms, but for everyday items like a traditional mage hat or the calfskin cap?

It's also oddly inconsistent, because we can wear the Bozjan Hood of Fending, but not hoods that share a similar design like the Rain Hood.

I thought you were being a bit hyperbolic first but wow... They're still only in the meetings stage on this and it sounds like they really didn't have a plan for these races all this time?

There's a chance something will be ready by 6.0 still, but talk about misrepresenting the situation in their initial statements 2 years ago.

Oh well, at least we got a response and a bit more details alongside the "wait more pls" this time.

So that's hats. "We accept hats work on Viera but the clipping isn't up to our internal standards."

Now I personally don't mind the clipping if it means I can wear hats, I suppose for now there continue to be.. *cough* ..mods for that.

They're apparently still "discussing which options they have" with regards to hairstyles.

So from what he's saying, in all this time nothing has been done yet and nothing has even been planned yet and they're still in the very early stages of the decision making progress on this.

well he speaks about how to release „all“ of the hairstyles (not in particular just racial ones) and they are discussing it in regular meetings how to implement them. and he said that happens (even though it has especially taken off 6 months ago) about on weekly basis, which is quite alot if you ask me. it seems they are stepping up to fix the problem, they seem to have weekly meetings about the hair situation and how to complete these races. i know it‘s nothing tangible but nevertheless they have regular meetings on the headgear and hairstyle situation, which imo is promising and him saying they are trying to implement ALL of the hair is also quite nice!

They didn't, if you read the full answer in the interview, and as Fukuro pointed out, they are consistently looking into how to implement ALL the hairstyles.


My GF and I are switching to female and male viera in 6.0, this is definitely good news for us, although I really think female viera have the most beautiful hairstyles in the game, personal taste I guess.
