When they said they'd increase the rank to 25, I have seen people being discouraged as not everybody were 15 or just doing the minimum to progress but the moment we are in Zadnor, you just progress much faster which helps a lot to people who are so behind.
Plus you get mettle from doing DR as well in case they want to continue the relic.

I feel this is a right call to get more people in, maybe they'll improve even more in other patches I dunno.

Gearing progression works with 3 tiers in 6 months cycles each and anyone can catch up easily when a new tier start so that's perfectly fine, But I consider that those 6 months should have enough new content that last enough to please involved players to enjoy the game as much as they want in those cycles.
Yeah later on they can nerf content by adding the echo or reducing the amount of stuff need to get whatever stuff they give so new players or players that take long breaks could get them in their free time more easily without disrupting they current progression is ok and essential, but one thing is that and other thing is delivering content that last less than a sneeze and have long periods of time without having nothing to do except being forced to sub bcs you have a house.

I believe they did really well in HW and SB but SHB just totally lacks proper content to keep playing if you want to, basically everything they released wouldn't need nerfs on the future bcs is already nerfed by default and the questionable design of stuff like bozja where you complete once and forget make it totally worse.
In resume delivering content to keep you busy for long periods of time and then nerf it when is not longer relevant so is way more easy to do and catch up when you have free time or wanna play a lot is essential and good design philosophy, delivering crumbs and rely on forced "play other games" arguments for excessive amounts of time without meaningful relevant content is not for me.
FFxiv did the first for many years and still has casual catch up and they should go back to that.

Actually, they never said to unsubscribe. In fact the housing system discourages it. They said to take breaks, which is different. Ideally for them, you'd keep your sub running but not play the game full time.

because they know people won't fully unsub due to the terrible housing system

its a 11/10 business decision from SE. they literally have thousands of people paying monthly for a game they're not even playing.

No but what they could do is up the 450 cap on the red tomes so people can gear multiple jobs and unlock savage. There’s no point grinding expert and other 80 content (trials etc) when the cap is reached so early.

This tier especially seemed to die early in PF (presumably because there was no ultimate) so that took a significant number of people away from it as well as making it really tough to clear each week right now, that it’s not even worth bothering. Hate to think what happens when it unlocks since all the good players already have BIS so they have no incentive to do it - especially since there’s nothing else that needs the gear.

Also as someone said earlier, the housing ownership thing forces you to stay subbed for a minimum period, so the “please take breaks” thing imo means “please take breaks, but still pay us each month”.

This is spot on. Some of you guys might be astonished however to find out how foreign this concept is for folks who've come here from WoW (which seems to be droves of players since the Shadowlands burnout).

I have played both WoW and FFXIV since their launches, and I like both games. However, since Ion took over at WoW, they are obsessed with player-engagement/retention metrics. You can feel the systems in that game tugging at your time and punishing you for taking long breaks/hiatuses. That's why every other post on WoW's General Discussion Forums is "I'm cancelling my sub over [blank]...". They are trying to get the devs attention by threatening the only thing it feels like the dev team cares about - time/money spent ingame. Yoshi P basically nipped this in the bud when he publicly encouraged FFXIV players to take breaks, spend time with family/friends, and play other games.

Those two opposing viewpoints alone are why I consider FFXIV to be my home game. The dev team respects my time so much more than Blizzard.

Yep, exactly. When I need a break I usually just turn my sub down to the minimum and let my retainers lapse, but still keep my subscription going. Having a house is a big motivator, sure, but my breaks usually don't last long either.

Ironic people are talking about healthy in regards to content when they have an unhealthy housing system of people sitting at a placard for hours because even after 3 expansions they can’t address the housing system issue.

Don't need to throw the baby out with the bath water lol. Just because one system isn't great doesn't mean the entirety of the game is reflected by that, well.. doesn't mean it should be- as people we tend to paint in broad strokes. Ruination by association.

I like that many parts of the game support a healthy opportunity, but I would full stop agree that the housing system is not the prime system of this game. The housing objects are very cute, I've seen some really great houses, but the system itself leaves a lot to be desired (for many reasons). I suppose there are worst systems out there, thankful it's not worse lol, but certainly feels like there are a lot better systems out there too.

Heads up, Ion isn't responsible for that crap, the bean counters at Activision are. They make more money if you stay subbed. They don't care if you log in once a week for five minutes, or not at all.

Stupid cat hit my hand making me post early and cant edit on mobile.
