Parsers add replayability for casual players

Lately I've found myself wondering why I bother running level cap content. Sure, it earns me better gear, but it's not like I can notice those incremental improvements without a parser. I'm on console so I can't even download one sneakily if I wanted to.

If I were into Savage/Extremes, you could make a case that I should care about my gear so that I can make those clears easier on my group. But I stopped doing PF content in Stormblood because it just causes me to burn out super fast. Regular content is pretty faceroll without great gear so my gear doesn't make or break my party.

So without any way to notice my improvement in normal content, why should I care about my item level? All I care is that I have the ilvl to enter content to get through the story and that's literally it. I don't even care to get my ilvl up for Endwalker since it'll all be available for Poetics in November anyway.

I know I don't need to have the best gear for my content. But having a parser, or even being given a grade at the end of a duty, would add so much replayability to end game content for me. I would keep working toward perfecting my gear because I could see the fruits of my labor.

Yeah I know, no one is forcing me to play level 80 stuff, I can level other jobs, there is side content, etc. Yeah I play other parts of the game. But I really wish I didn't feel like abandoning something the second it hits 80 because I've run out of goals for that job.

Please add parsers to your game SE. Casual console players would have more reason to play end game content. Item level is not fun to track. Output/throughput is!

S.E. would lose valuable casuals to 1st Party Parsing. It'll NEVER happen.

I wouldn’t mind it. But I think casuals wouldn’t fancy seeing that as a SAM they’re being out dps’d by their healer. Ignorance is bliss, from my perspective.

The director has categorically stated he does not want parsers for 14 and that we will never get them.

    As said above:

    1. Yes, you're right but..
    2. The people who don't want to see their numbers or have their numbers compared to others would cry foul

Not that it stops people from using 3rd party parsing software anyway, but it's easier to hide your head in the sand while it's kept to the 3rd party word.

Same old stuff. Nothing changes could just bump an old parser thread and read the arguments this won't be any different. It's all mute the director doesn't want them.

I have to politely disagree with the title, if not also the philosophy, while at the same time marginally agreeing with the possible goal. I know, convoluted, so let me explain, lol

First, the title: I feel that casual players wouldn’t ever be interested in a parser. Seems contradictory to being “casual” because in my experience, casual players actually are interested in running content for the fun of it without need to gauge performance.

The moment you want to gauge performance and improve upon it, to me that’s the first step away from being casual. I know there’s still a lot of steps to get to a point of being “hardcore”, but like I said, it’s still a step, and one I feel most casual players don’t actually care about.

As for the idea itself... I have mixed feelings about it.

Thinking back on my bygone raiding days and having a similar interest in gauging performance, not just my own but those around me as well, I feel like opening that up is opening Pandora’s box.

Maybe, MAYBE it can be done in a manner where it wouldn’t lead to forming opinions of other players, maybe folks could keep themselves under control. However, experience has shown that if most folks are given a tool, given Power, they’ll likely abuse it.

If it were done in a way that wouldn’t be possible, then maybe it could be cool. Maybe only show you your performance? And ensure that it can’t be pulled / reviewed by others?

If that were possible, then I agree, it would be cool to have something to more easily check your own performance and experiment with different abilities / rotations, see what works best.

I try to do that now as I level, and while I can get a feel for it, sometimes I miss the numbers...

Then again, oddly enough, I’m also finding it pretty freeing not being trapped by numbers, having a sense of pushing myself to perform well but not feel like a noose is around my neck if I don’t do well enough. I’m definitely having WAY more fun now than I was when swimming around in the cesspool that is WoW.

Sorry, it’s late and I’m tired and I’m clearly rambling, lol

Yeah.. I want to see the day, these discussions die out completely, to be honest.

Just because you play a game casually doesn't mean you can't care about your performance, especially when it can be pretty "fun" to see that you're doing well or that you're improving.

I honestly don't know where this idea came from that casuals need to automatically be fine with mediocrity at best because they're "just casuals"
