Tired of Zenos (spoilers)

Plus even if it WAS commentary on that sort of player, it wouldn't immediately make it GOOD, especially for people that aren't like that. People say he's our 'foil' but in what way really? Because we're heroic and he's evil? The PC isn't really defined enough to have an impactful foil.

This may sounds harsh, but I think people keep claiming Zenos is X foil, is either: (A) try to sounds deep, (B) tried to make Zenos more interesting than he is.


I'm sorry, just because a character is foil to someone, doesn't mean they're going to be good. And tbh Zenos isn't even a foil to canon derplander. He is basically "foil" to any sane, good people.

He also brought two nations to their knees, kills his subordinates for any reason he can think of, kills people purely to breed someone with enough hate and strength who would challenge him, and is hated by his own father. Am I missing something here? Because that's one of the recipes for a villain you absolutely want to kill.

I'm going to toss the MCU here but Thanos, though wrong for his action, you could understand convictions. Emet Selch and the other Ascians you could understand and sympathize with. Zenos is just evil, period.

While agree I just wanted to nudge it one step further and said evil to be evil can work and it doesn't work, imo, here for Zeno's. Given say Sheev (Emperor Palpatine), or Sauron, heck I feel Ex-Death was kind of fun and he's just evil too. May put Jenova here too. The devil and demons in general have some fun evil to be evil. Diablo and his brothers in the Diablo series.

Personally I very much prefer depth of sympathy or "oh.. I can see what you were trying to do there, not that I agree", over just evil for evil. But even if you were evil for evil, Zeno's still isn't that great.

For myself, I found Zenos to be a pretty interesting character, not just for his strength and simple logic, but also because we know so very little about him.

What I'm hoping Endwalker does for Zenos is help flesh out his character more and allows us to explore a good portion of his past in order to understand why he is the way he is and what he might become later on in the story.

The thing is that, at least as far as we know so far, Fandaniel is also pretty one-dimensional. But he's much more engaging. I don't have to sympathize or relate to my villians for them to be effective villians. Making them so detestible that you want to know what bull they're getting up to is also effective. The problem is Zenos doesn't really DO anything. He just exists to be an obstacle for us to easily overcome while acting bored and over it all.

The only thing really going for Fandaniel at the moment is that he's playing 3D chess and we haven't figured out his strategy. That will fizzle out sooner rather than later, most likely. Zenos is just bored. He wants one thing and one thing only, and that is to fight the WoL. It's a much, MUCH less interesting version of Dante and Vergil from Devil May Cry basically. He wants unlimited power to fight us with, and we simply want to take him down just to be done with it all.

We know that he wants to end the world, but there hasn't been much proof yet as to how. Just for the record though, I never said he was good at 3D chess.
