You have people in this very thread dismissing the harassment and enabling the harasser to continue their bigotry, so the issue is larger than just 1 single outlier. If we were actually united on this issue, we could get more accomplished via social media.

You have a better chance having the Novice Network shut down (as Google searches, videos, in-game General chat and FC chat already cover what you get from the NN) if moderation tools are not strengthened. If the NN is not a safe space for newbies, it is acting contrary to its purpose and is no longer needed.

I would not be shocked if they shut down NN in the future though I will miss my server wide LS. This person is annoying do not get me wrong but I do not think it is a safety issue like some make it out to be.

Shutting down NN is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Regardless of how hard people meme/hate on it, it's for the most part a good place and had helped me get my feet on the ground / social interactions as a sprout. As a mentor, it's how I easily find/interact with sprouts as well as other mentors. I know plenty of others who offer help via NN.

Online guides and especially google tend to get obsolete very quickly and/or be not the best source information. Same with Free Companies and Linkshells, as those may quickly fall into same-think without people bothering to crosscheck information (in NN, or at least our NN we generally cross-check one another), and even if FCs are an option not everyone is in one, or one large enough, or has the mentality to endure a sufficiently large FC and the potential for drama / friction that entails.

Until now people keep saying "Hey PotD is the best souce of EXP for DPSes!!!" when in fact it only really beats out farming your highest levelled dungeon if your queues are 20 minutes long or longer. Not to mention that we've had more than our fair share of sprouts who had gone 'wait uh, so this guide told me X but i can't find it' because the guides that Google pointed them to were outdated by a year or otherwise in error. A friend of mine -a fellow Mentor- who hates our Novice Network for being 'dictatorial' decided on giving advice via linkshell instead... and their advice has so far been ATROCIOUS and they demonstrated a general lack of understanding on how jobs work (they gushed about melding spell speed on Red Mage of all things and then chided me for using Overheat on mobs because you should only use it for Bosses apparently---- if they had said this in our NN, their info would have been crosschecked HARD and refuted)

Some of you guys' biases towards NN are showing, and it's not pretty. Seriously, the fix is easy, and it doesn't necessitate NN to be taken down.

Have a moderator keep an eye out in NN for a while, until this tides over. Maybe implement a .5 or 1 second text cooldown to prevent spam as well. If possible, make macros not work in NN. Add a timeout after saying something in NN and being able to leave it.

I don't see how. It causes more trouble than it's worth, in my opinion. The game would be better off without it. It would pretty much solve this issue as well. So a two for one.

I made an entire post on top about exactly how, and that isn't even a comprehensive explanation. The issue with NNs being 'good' or 'bad' is that the people in NN differ from server to server, and from time of day to time of day. The 'initial population' of a given NN also influences how it becomes in the future.

And Middy NN... Middy NN is, in contrast to the other worlds on Aether that I've been in, very much a stickler to the idea of giving good advice. To that end, any advice given in our NN is cross-checked and verifed by other mentors and we explicitly make sure nothing we share can get people banned. The TOS is also held in extremely high regard and things like discussion on numbers and/or bragging about them are incredibly frowned upon. This is different from other servers (like, say, Sarg) where people would casually talk about numbers and/or link/share their forbidden website profiles.

I know how toxic some NNs can be. I also know how much good they can bring. I've been in several world servers'/ datacenters' NNs (I have 15 roleplay characters and two gameplay characters) and interacted with and observed all these different NNs. Some NNs I happily engage in and find pleasantly open, others I tab out almost immediately in sheer distaste. I full well know what I'm talking about.

You, on the other hand, simply seem to have a vendetta against NN itself that you would happily wish for its destruction over a minor issue that could be easily solved through far less nuclear means if SQex ever bothered to. Besides, Excalibur is in Primal isn't it, not Æther? You don't have no chicken in this fight.

I've seen it helpful in quite a number of situations.

Also, arguably just as helpful, give it the PvP treatment and make it so trial accounts cannot access/talk in the novice network. That way, anyone doing this would have to repeatedly purchase the game to continue doing this, and eventually he'll run dry.

NN overall would be a better off uf people just saw it for what it was a friendly server wide LS where people hang out and get answers to the occasional question. Sadly some take NN for too seriously which I think tends to lead to trolls. I know on my alt server we have a semi draconian stance and at times because of it we have the occasional troll pop in and drop a spoiler or try to start some heated debate over current affairs.

Honestly the only bad NN I've really ever encountered is Siren's. Its a special kind of not great.
