Predictions for job(s) in the next expansion?

To be fair the Grim Reaper can mean alot of things from Death itself, the Scythe, powers related to death, causing death as a business, and etc.

If the latest dungeon, Paglth'an, is any indication the Imperial Garlean Army might be in the running. They shoved that place full of Garlean Reaper war mechs to the point they are the second most common enemy you fight in it. We also had Gaius unleashing a new attack in a cutscene this patch called Crocea Mors, which is Latin for "Yellow Death".

And considering the guy who is teasing us with the Grim Reaper shirts is the same guy who signed off on the Garlean Reaper mechs and the allied Garlean soldier firing off a new attack called Yellow Death....let's just say I don't think those are coincidences.

I mean yes, scythe stuff is very likely but no need to go that far to grasp "clues" xD

I hope it’s a mystic/rune knight with the twist being it uses a scythe. would be a cool spin on the class since there are so many sword users, and I think it’s a reasonable addition since it will share gear with Dragoon, and mystic/rune knights tend to wear bulkier armor.

I mean, in 5.5

Krile did mention the temple of Sharlayan, so it could be a Templar guarding secret magical texts using a staff and scimitar combined into a scythe.

So well, who knows. Zenos' stuff might be a hint, seems like a pretty rare weapon type so it could be from the new job, and Sharlayan is pretty secluded so their weaponry and martial arts would be pretty seldomly seen outside of it.

You know, I am starting to think the class is going to be Judge; which has been a long requested class by part of the fanbase. The Grim Reaper doesn't just represent death it also represents final judgement and the Asian counterpart to the Grim Reaper, Yama, is often depicted wearing a Chinese judge's cap. Patch 5.5 was their last chance to tease the new class in-game before the reveal next month so I was on the lookout for any mention of the word Reaper or any character using a new ability that referenced death; both the Reaper references and the only new ability we saw, Crocea Mors (Yellow Death), were Garlean in origin. We know Gaius and the other Garlean Legatus are based on the Archadian Judges from XII. They were turned into a job for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and they were given abilities with names like Yellow Clip and Yellow Card so the fact Gaius unloads a new attack called Yellow Death while giving a speech about crime and punishment is very interesting.

Then there is the fact that the last time they added an iconic melee job, Samurai, they put a group of samurai-themed armor sets, the Asuran gear, into the game before Yoshida did his Spiderman shirt tease and a couple of patches before we meet Gosetsu. This time they put a series of judge-themed armor sets, the Law's Order gear, in a month prior to the first Grim Reaper shirt tease. And in the Gunbreaker class quests they also go out of their way to drive home the point that Garlean style gunblades are very different weapons with a different fighting style from the Bozjan ones the Gunbreaker class uses; which is the kind of thing you would do if you are planning to add a second gunblade wielding class in the near future and wanted to set up the lore for why it was different.

I was with you up to the gunblade stuff, I think if Judge is to be the new job, it'll take the weapon from the most iconic judge. Being Gabranth, that we have seen using two blades, one shorter than the other.

Paladins and Dark Knights function fine as a Judge Magister type of character. All that's missing is aesthetics of dual wielding weapons.

And Templars are just Paladins. More edgy Templars can function as Dark Knights.

I kind of hate the name 'Judge' though. It doesn't seem like something an adventurer/WoL would be.

On the other hand, we are talking about the dev team that just armed a class named Sage with a swarm of magitek attack drones.

Paladins and Dark Knights function fine as a Judge Magister type of character. All that's missing is aesthetics of dual wielding weapons.

And Templars are just Paladins. More edgy Templars can function as Dark Knights.

And the hypothetical Reaper class that I see people speculating about is pretty much a Dragoon with the dragon aesthetics swapped out for death aesthetics and a slightly different polearm.
