Live Letters - Why No More Live Letter Questions?

We recently had a person complain about the community that, it got so bad, the OP deleted their original post and edited it with "I've looked at the last two pages and this has nothing to do with what I addressed any longer."

The thing with that deletion is, the responses were exactly what the original post called for - from memory it was claiming the community was "degenerate" and that state was encouraged by SE by arbitrary reasons like encouraging more casual players to join.

Deleting it was equal parts covering their tracks and walking off in a huff.

It is, quite simply, bad forum etiquette to completely change or erase your post after people have commented on it. If the post really has gone off the rails, the original post demonstrates the author's intent.

I agree. The issue ultimately is that a small handful will hijack a thread with a dismissive post, and that post will generate a ton of messages, and that forum would be bumped. Trollish behavior ends up killing great suggestions because a bump is a bump, and an argument can lead to lots of bumps, and lots of pages, and ultimately becomes a high-ranking thread. Ultimately, forum culture can be hit with aggressive or mean-spirited posts and those get bumped. You're right that it's not Square-Enix's fault, but also, there was a really really great solution that they had for years that circumvented this.

No they just got upset when people didn't agree with them so they deleted their post.

In one of the most recent Q&A, some of the questions from the english forum were definitely asked. The ones that did get answers were dismissed as being requests that were impossible.

They usually only have a Q&A if they have a special guest of sorts, like the art director or some other department head on the dev team. The upcoming LL will have...Yoshi P, and probably the guy who's usually next to him that I don't know the name of. Sometimes they do a Q&A just for the heck of it, but I wouldn't call it a common practice.

That's pretty much how it went down, yeah.

And I've made some posts in the past I'm not particularly proud of, but I almost always allow them to remain. I don't say anything I'm not afraid that others will see on these forums.

The responses in that thread were actually quite on point. The OP merely got angry because they were getting pushback on their claims of 'degeneracy' and such. They threw a little hissy fit, deleted their original post and ran off. Same happened recently with a fellow who mucked up his use of a free Fantasia and came onto the forum spitting fire at SE demanding a new Fantasia, same thing, he got pushback, deleted their post and ran off.

It's people looking for an echo chamber and 'poor guy' posts, what they get instead leaves them frustrated and so they make some claim about 'spam' or 'this wasn't meant for any of you, but for a dev' and turn up their nose petulantly.

This. I have seen it happening twice and it's always hilarious to me.
Basically it's Skinner's "Am I in the wrong? No, everyone else is wrong." and delete their posts under the excuse that "no actual discussion is taking place".

Probably Yoshi (and by extension, SE) finally had enough of players asking the same old tired questions over and over again which Yoshi has repeatedly answered, answers the player community refuses to, or at least doesn't want to, accept, and so keep asking in the vain hope he'll change his mind.

So they probably just decided to skip the Q&A this time around - the pandemic probably didn't help matters either.
