Eh, I like the gender lock when it comes to gear. It ensures that there isn't an excess of gear designed to be overly feminine or androgynous which is exactly the problem hairstyles have come to have on many fronts ever since they were unlocked and made 'unisex'.

Oh to be a caster/healer main playing a male character.

In a nuthshell: There are glamour items that are specific to men, but cant be worn by women. On the reverse, there are glamour items for women that can be worn by men. Why not both ways.

They would need to be added to the mesh, and likely SE's Male and Japanese developers haven't thought it was important enough to assign an artist too

Dont be shy! Yeah, this is pretty much the other side of the issue. Clothing from men to women would have to be adjusted or you may get some things 'clip out' or distort the garment.

If a male character can wear a dang wedding dress why can i a girl wear the riveria vest or the Boulevardier's ruffled shirt? if they can wear the bunny stuff why can't i wear the Aymeric stuff?

At least partly, it's a matter of counterpart sets.

Men can wear the wedding dress and women can wear the suit.

Men can wear the bunny outfit and women already had access to the gambler's set.

Men can't wear the Riviera dress or the Quaintrelle dress, so it's balanced that women can't wear the counterparts. It may simply be a matter of time until both versions are unlocked to the other gender.

NPC outfits have never been available to both genders, even for things like the Scions' ARR outfits that are all built from pieces that have unisex models. (Though the decision to mostly recycle existing gear for their Shadowbringers outfits sort of means that female characters can equip any of the Scions' outfits while males can't use Y'shtola's unique dress.)

That said, the one exception on Mog Station is Alphinaud's newly released Heavensward outfit, which is unisex - which raises the possibility of future releases also being unisex, and possibly a review of past outfits as well.

it's only unisex because both of the twins wore it - so it's already unisex.

The real outcry is the lack of maid outfit for males. I need to create my lala trap maid cafe. It has been a long time goal of mine and my friends. We have done it the wedding dress, school girl outfit and bunny outfit. With the maid outfit we can reach our final form!

Correct, the maid outfit, alongside the thavnairian bustier set, can now properly fit male models without texture stretching or using a female-body model, but are not officially unlocked yet

I'm not one for full-on crossdressing characters, but I really want the Thavnairian headdress and sleeves available to play with for my alts. There have definitely been times where it seemed like it would work to add them to an outfit.

Makes sense to me. I still want the male gender type shirt/vest from Valentione's on my fem characters way more than I wanted the short dress we got.
