Yeah war, murder, slavery, mind control, drunkeness, drug use, drug smuggling, mental/physical abuse, death are inherently family friendly. And before anyone goes off "it's a fantasy game though" yeah no duh it's just a video game but age ratings do matter for the stuff they put in themselves. Don't want your kids potentially interacting with adults in a way you don't approve of? Don't let them play unsupervised or play at all thanks. Can't believe we're still muddying the waters with this nonsense.

All of this. I'm a parent. My husband and I are both gamers and so are our kids. We've done our best to teach them online safety, but at the end of the day it's our responsibility as parents to make sure we know what they are doing and who they are interacting with.

But here it’s a lot more sinister. A lot more kinks and I have no doubt that kids could potentially be in danger here.

You can’t really control what two people write in messages to each other but they should absolutely be addressing the community finder posts that are popping up. This is a family friendly game.
Ah yes, ERP. Truly the worst of all evils that plagues FFXIV.

You: "Do something about ERP! It's sinister and dangerous!"

So about the discussion about children playing I have two minds about this.

If you manage your children and tell them the truths about the world and do not hide the fact there are predators and you need to be vigilant at all times this can be a big help.

My son is 16 he is almost 17. He’s been playing violent video games and grand theft auto online since launch. I played violent video games when I was young and hated censorship and I tried to teach him about the internet and what to look out for since I remember first going on the internet when I was nine back in 1994.

He got his first job at 14 and me and mom thought we got him a work permit so he could work at that age. No he just applied and got a job and they had to let him go once they saw his age

The only reason the age rating is as low as they can get away with is to draw in as large of an audience as they can, and while they can't outwardly endorse people doing stuff that goes above that age rating, I'm pretty sure SE has better things to do than police every conversation in the game.

Online interactions aren't rated by a board and the people behind the screen don't really care for it, either. Should you start talking about Thancred's gunblade in the middle of gridania plaza on /shout? No, 'course not you dip, but people in small clusters can, will and should be able to shoot the shit about whatever they please. SE isn't your mother or big brother. If you're an adult, I expect you to have gotten out of your "ew cooties" phase and actually be mature enough to tolerate the concept that people on earth generally procreate to create more humans. Sure, a game like this will never be fully 'private' but this game is also a method for you to meet others with, and a pretty good one at that. Some people are going to be comfortable about talking about the lewds, others won't. Ultimately nobody cares and you really shouldn't either; they don't harm people by virtue of existing. In fact, giving people the leeway to freely talk to each-other about whatever in a private enough sphere is something I can only consider to be a good thing.

It's one thing to want to keep the nudes out of the public eye, which I agree with. Never having a sexually explicit conversation, though? That's unreasonable to ask of both teens and adults.

Heck, you should've heard some of the playground talk I had at around ages 10-12. Wack stuff, I tell you.
This brings me back to a conversation my girlfriend has with me often about this subject. If she is at a Union meeting and is at a hotel later she likes to go to the hot tub with everyone else and have a couple drinks.

She will censor herself in the afternoon and early evenings but at a certain point kids do need to go to bed and the grown folks should be able to talk about grown folks things.

She was telling me a follow union member felt strongly against this until he had an 8 year old girl at 9pm at night get in the hot tub at night and he ended feeling some sort of way and got out because it made him feel uncomfortable.

Her response to him now you see why and you should of never got out because I would of talked about all sorts of sucking this and that. It’s 9pm it’s her bedtime and where are her parents at letting her get into a hot tub with a grown man.

You want to be let in on a secret?

I haven't read to the ToS and only gave my vague acceptance to it so I could play the game.

It can say whatever it wants and I wouldn't care. If someone has a problem with me they can report me. If SE points me to a rule and says "you're on thin ice now buddy" then, sure, I'll comply. Until that point though, I'm just going to keep trucking along as I have been without caring about a single word in it.

If everyone who broke ToS would be banned overnight I'm sure you'd see most players in this game vanish as if they've been thanos snap'd.

It's called 'explaining a point of view'.

I remember when I was at school before the age of literally everyone having a smartphone with access to the internet at any time, and even then with those older phones I still remember people having adult videos in them and even showing them around, I cant imagine what it must be these days where kids have phones and internet access from way earlier ages.
Not that I see an issue with it, I believe kids should see and be taught the reality of things, not have information hidden from them because of some puritanical insecure reasons some seem to have, or even other subjects, the world is harsh, unfair, broken and full of nuanced problems yet to this day you see people trying to obscure information, generalize and simplify complex situations, spread propaganda tier ideas of how perfectly "the world works" thus leading kids into a false and close minded world views that will only be an obstacle for them later on when they meet the real world that has barely anything in common with the bs they were taught.

The "think of the children" argument is 90% of the time just used as an excuse from some to try censor something they dont like and that is easily proven when they literally dont care about the children's safety or development in any other way which is why it is such an incredibly disingenuous argument which is my main point.

The tryhard elitist is the person who is going to finish their 5 pieces on this created to be beaten """"challenge"""" and then complaint that the baby, slower or less dexterous person are a problem which not only is toxic but indirectly implies that doing this basic created to be beaten task faster is an """achievement""" of """great skill""" which helps to falsely boost the elitist's self worth as that is their true motive, if challenge was truly their desire they would relish in the chance to do more than the rest.
The healthy person on the other hand will either let people finish their part or assist them for their self worth does not depend on solving basic puzzles created to be beaten, aka as a video game.
