Of course people can make gil selling lower level stuff, it happens all the time. Lower level items and materials can be the meat and potatoes of any market buff's diet. However, we have a overabundance of bots at the moment, making sure that doesn't happen.

I mean... your suggest is people just sell dificult to get items? The night Pegasus comes only from deep dungeons. The casual coffer is a rare items you get from kupo cards, that's an entirely RNG based item you're not likely to get. That's why it's so highly priced right now. That's the solution?

tl;dr: You talk down to people who know more about this than you do.
I'm making gil every day selling items I'm crafting on my various alts. I'm not always making millions of gil a day (though I do over the course of a week) but I am definitely profiting from what I craft because I take some time looking at the MB to figure out what will sell and look again for other items when it stops selling.

The question people aren't answering is why is it important to make millions of gil in a day in a game that doesn't require you to have millions of gil to do anything outside of purchase a house. What's the point of being rich when there's nothing to spend the gil on?

Melichoir made some good points. A lot of players blame all of the market situation on bots when there are a lot of other factors involved.
    • Current ease of entry to crafting/gathering for all players so the number of sellers has increased but demand decreased as more players make/gather their own items.
    • Lack of need to purchase items off the MB (housing items don't sell well when there are no houses for players to purchase, gear doesn't sell well when it's easy to farm tomestones and get tomestone gear).
    • The abundance of HQ leveling gear being generated through quest rewards and ending up on the MB because the player already has better gear equipped (usually because their character is 5-10 levels above the quest level).
    • The abundance of other items, including more HQ gear, being generated through Quick Ventures now that many of the popular content creators have convinced their followers that Quick Ventures are a good source of gil.

SE has been flooding the game with items from various sources to reduce the need for players to buy from the MB. Reduced need equals reduced demand, and reduced demand means prices start dropping.

Are there bots out there? Yep. Would love to see them gone. But if we want to be rid of bots, it means getting rid of the cheaters who keep them in business first. Otherwise they'll keep coming back because there is real money to be made from cheaters.

Are the bots the sole cause of the marketboard woes? Not by a long shot.

RMT bot banning is down too. Peaked around Sept of 2017 with over 60k bannings for RMT/Illicit activities. Now it's a big deal if they ban 5k in a week if you check the slow news day articles written about it.
I think the main reason the number of RMT bans is lower is because there just isn't nearly as many of the ARR gil farmers as there was before.

I make it a note to check the list of sprouts on my server daily and I used to see over 100 gil farm bots during peak activity periods. Nowdays, it's rare to see them at all.

I have a feeling this is likely related to the fact that the number of DoH/L bots and more recently treasure map bots has been increasing, though...

Slightly related note: my FC mate told me he made 3 mil gil in 2 days doing leeve quests.
Was he pulling my leg? Or is this truly a steady way to amass a fortune?

I have nothing to add on the bot issue that hasn't already been said, just that I'm also sick of the lack of any sort of effort to deal with them on SEs part. Excuse it all you want, they could be doing so much more than they have been... which is practically nothing.

Yes. Got three characters with CUL leveled to 80? Coffee Biscuits leve. Bam, around 3 mill right there for 100 leves.

It could possible if you have a 100 leves to use. Like making coffee biscuits for the lvl 78 leve quest. The mats are super easy to gather. You can turn in 9 biscuits per leve and it average to 18k gil each time. Do a 100 of them on the 1st day then the 2nd day a little more leve regenerates and you can maybe get to around 2mil in two days. Awesome way to make gil.

The easiest level 80 leves are worth around 18K in raw gil each, while some of the more difficult items can give you closer to 30K per leve.

So yeah, it is actually a good way of making money if you're willing to grind a bit and arguably better then trying to sell stuff on the marketboard if you want consistent income.

Thanks for the replies Mirhd, CoolCat, and KageTokage.
I just thought of leeves as a tool for levelling & getting scripts, but now that I know they're also a reliable way to make some solid gil...

On average you'll be making 100k every day just from that, so about 700k every week, for doing basically nothing, and not having to combat the bots at all.

This is on top of the fact that most of the time, the leve supplies right back all the crystals you used to do it, you're quite literally making free income. It's how I get my spending money since I haven't pulled gil from my retainers for years.

    Daaaang~!
    Forget the market board.
    I'm done selling to players.
I'm gonna make a living crafting for NPCs.

I agree the bots and the silly undercutters (dropping it by 30,000 just because) have ruined the crafting market. And I detest the bots and SE should absolutely do something.

But I’d argue that if crafting and selling was the only fun you had in the game then I think there’s bigger problems for you than bots.

It’s incredibly hard if not impossible to make those ridiculous Gil numbers you used to be able to. But let’s not pretend that you can’t make enough Gil to buy anything you want. I’m averaging a few million a week simply from retainers, eureka challenge log, roulettes and a tiny bit of crafting.

I can’t believe that someone that spends lots of time crafting and gathering their own mats isn’t making bank. You just aren’t able to dominate a market like you could before.
