The OP is right. The problem isn't the amount of houses. The problem is actually the price of houses. When the Housing system was first released the prices of the various houses were a much larger gil sink then they are now. It actual took large FCs quite a bit of time to gather the necessary gil purchase a medium or small not to mention large.

Player income has increased to the point where those original high prices are currently insufficient as a gil sink. Reasonably active players can now easily have the money to buy a Large on their own.

What SE actually needs to do is increase the price of plots by at least a factor of 10 and add an additional weekly maintenance fee of 1% the purchase price.

That doesn't fix the underlying problem, which is the availability of houses. So you are wrong. A lot of people have a ton of gil, so gil is a non issue. The OP is right, however, about instanced housing being a possible solution, but I disagree that the amount of houses isn't the issue, because it most certainly is.

You have to be out of your mind to believe availability is the problem. You would be on to something if you talked about server distribution, but no.

Personal housing combined with the ridiculously low housing prices are to blame for the ongoing situation that has been, for the most part, only affecting the North American servers.

Just make houses have an ongoing property tax to continue to own the land, and give purchase priority to FCs with higher FC Rank. Make medium & large only open to FCs with 100+ members at rank 30 day 1, and lower the requirements every day it remains on market.

Apartments i such wasted potential. They're glorified FC rooms that cost more. It baffles me how they actually believed this would fix the problem. And they're still making excuses not to allow size options.

To be honest the biggest thing was for people to be able to dye chocobos if you weren't in a FC to me. It was a solo players thing. Now everyone I know in my mains FC that bothers with any form of decorating has a Room, Apartment, and house. Why? I don't know. Whatever they're into. I have a FC room but thats it and I barely touch it. I thought about a house but I'd never do anything with it. I honestly don't care about housing that much.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. It's fine to have personal and FC housing. But they never should have been in the same instance. Double the total available plots. Move all FC plots there. So you have personal and freecompany zones for it.

I've said this a million times, but I'll just share my opinion again.

The fact that every house in FFXIV has a physical address is actually really cool. It means that literally anybody (on your data center at least) can physically locate your house without messing with things like friend requests or anything like that. This is great for estates... places that are meant to be gathering places. For example, my small house in the Goblet is a concert hall that I use for bard events.

The problem is that the vast majority of homeowners are what I might call "solo decorators". They use their estate to decorate a pretty little space to AFK in that they, alone, will use. Occasionally a friend may pop in, but for the most part the house is only visited rarely. They are not really utilizing the fact that their house has a physical address that anybody can visit, and in fact would probably even prefer a private instanced area rather than a public one.

Do I think these people should get what they want? ABSOLUTELY. Hell, that's basically what my apartment is, just a fancy, pretty little spot I afk in while waiting for queues or while I'm working on bard music. However I wouldn't want instanced housing at the expense of public residential areas, I would want it as a way to massively decrease the demand of the public housing so that everybody gets what they want. The people like me who want a public estate people can visit get their estates, and the people who want a pretty little spot to decorate get their island home.

"Personal housing" is exactly what the name implies...personal. And that means players can do whatever the heck they want with their plots. If they want to open their house up to gatherings? Cool! If they want to keep to themselves and decorate their house to their heart's content? That is also cool. I don't see why this is a problem at all. They are utilizing their plot exactly the way the system intended them to. Just not in the way you personally would like. All of that said, I would dump my plot so fast if I could have an instanced house in the area of my choice and preferences, with both exterior and interior access. I really would.

Its been said before and needs to be said again Free company houses do to not belong to any single player. They belong to the Free company itself, the FC leader does not own the house despite their control over it. Personal homes belong strictly to the player that purchases the home and no one else. 1 Free company house per account cannot be done for reasons that have been explained in pervious housing threads.
