Stealth brag topic. Look at this guy, logging into an FC with active players that say hello. Well la-dee-dah Mr Rockefeller, save some good fortune for the rest of us.

Just say "hi" and leave it there. No reason you have to engage further.
If you are looking for something like the Invisible mode ESO has, unfortunately FF14 doesn't have it. I understand the need for privacy at times, especially when I'm not feeling well and the last thing I want is to be social but without leaving the FC or muting it entirely, but it isn't currently supported. Someone has mentioned the busy status state (which if I recall correctly prevents people from sending you messages and trading with you) but I have no idea if it affects the FC communications in any way.Is there a setting in FF14 that I can turn OFF that will not notify my FC members that I've logged onto the game? Basically invisible mode, similar to what FF11 had. Reason I'm asking, is I'm sure we've all been there: Sometimes you just want to log in discretely and not be glomped with tons of "HELLOS" in chat.
I don't think there's a setting but if I'm overlooking something please let me know. Thanks!
Some people here pretend like they never have had contact with human beings before. The request isn't that outlandish. Sometimes you just want to chill. Just saying hi and then stay mute totally isn't going to rub people the wrong way. lol
Not having a log in notification won't prevent others from seeing you're online and trying to speak with you.
Most people I know who have occasional days they aren't feeling social will make alt characters they can play that aren't part of a FC. They're still able to relax and enjoy the game without having to worry about the social chat, and can easily switch back to their character in a FC when they're feeling social again.
Yes BUT the difference is the person/people in question would have to *actively* open up the FC menu (or friends list etc) then actually LOOK. into see who is online.
As for the busy function while that works in question, it still doesn't prevent the notification going through, and you also have to set that every time. Thus defeating the point.
I do find it odd that only FC's will be notified and not anyone else: i.e. Friends List, Crossworld LS, or LS's in general. Just the FC.
And what am I "bragging" about? It was a simple question that I was looking for an answer for. No need to attack it dude and be counter-productive
You'd be surprised. Either way, it would just be nice to login and "chill" rather than be hit with a Hello or have the person(s) track you down thinking something was wrong.

I thought Fawkes was trying to be funny. In that you're in an active FC that has people not only say hi or o/ but actually want to be social. Instead of how it is in a dead FC where you're lucky to get noticed. Due to either you're the only one online or everyone else was afk. Also what's wrong with people who care about you? Most FCs just give a hello and that's it. Trust me I get the whole wanting to be invisible thing, but if someone tracks you down and says you don't seem yourself today then they probably will understand when you tell them that you're just not feeling sociable right then.
Unless this changed recently, it doesn't. It only prevents direct interaction like tells and trades.
As for OP just say "hi" back and do whatever it is you want to do. If people greeting you is a big problem for you then maybe you should join a different fc or none at all. There is currently no way to hide when you come online from fc members, and I don't see this changing anytime soon.
I understand having days in which you want to be left alone, I get those days too. But I understand that people who greet me have no idea how I'm feeling that day and they're just trying to be friendly, so I greet them back and then get on with my life. It's not a big deal, for me at least.
Indeed, you described pretty much what I occasionally did with my previous FC. If someone greeted me I'd say hi and then disappear from the chat. No shame in that, sometimes I just need to be alone and be unsocial. Other times I couldn't stop talking in the FC chat. It's all part of being human.Unless this changed recently, it doesn't. It only prevents direct interaction like tells and trades.

Probably because FCs are centered around the idea that people join because they want to be doing things with players in that FC where linkshells are more about sharing information.Yes BUT the difference is the person/people in question would have to *actively* open up the FC menu (or friends list etc) then actually LOOK. into see who is online.

I have my share of days when I really don't want to be bothered by others but a friendly Hello still doesn't bother me. If you're having a hard time dealing with a simple "Hello" from others, you probably shouldn't be in a FC. If all you're trying to get out of the FC is the action benefit, create your own as SecretIsland suggested.
The other thing to do is set up the 4th chat log window so only game messages are displayed and disable all sound notifications for chat. That way you can switch to the 4th window and you won't even see the Hellos or any other message sent your way.
I honestly don't think there is a setting for that, unfortunately, but I fully understand and sympathize with your reasoning. Sometimes I find myself pressed for time between IRL stuffs, but want to peek in on the Market Board or what have you for a brief moment, for example. A moment that can easily be derailed by everyone engaging me the moment I log in, and often times I end up not accomplishing what I originally logged in to do so as not to appear rude.
