FFXIV doesn't even have mythics! What game are you playing? I literally stand in middle of aoes spamming holy while not even having to use a single gcd to heal my tank
Your probably right. All I can say for myself is that within a month of Shadowlands releasing I was utterly bored and so disheartened by everything I was reading about the preferred specs, none of which were the ones I liked to play, that I left and it was likely for the last time. The thing most responsible for drawing me back, Torghast, was fun...at first, but eventually got really dull, and annoying when you go through a whole run with crappy powers and get steam rolled by the end boss, and was also extremely unrewarding, didn't hold my interest long. People like to say, well that's just optional. Not if you wanted your legendary it wasn't. I think they added a few more things you can get out it, like the mount you can use in the Maw, but by that point it was to late. There are people who go from FF14 to WoW, but I think it's a very small number compared to the reverse who are flooding into this game from WoW. A fairly significant number of them do return to WoW though or get torn between both for a long time.
After enough time they do eventually make a decision, it's just that WoW is good at trying to entice them back (but it's a trap and they usually get disappointed again).
That's if we assume people only play one MMO or the other. There is quite a significant crossover in the playerbases who simply play both and probably always will.
Time will tell if I stay in FF14. The deciding factor there will be whether or not the combat gets better later on in the game. I am told by a friend that it does. Everything else about FF14 I really enjoy and could see myself playing here for a long time to come. I hear a lot that there is not nearly as much endgame content here as in Wow. That is actually a plus for me, because there are far, far to many other games I want to play to ever get bogged down by an MMO again. And WoW tries it best to make sure that it is the only game you play.
I don't think you're getting the point of the post. We're talking about how ffxiv dungeons are infinitely worse than WoW's dungeons. Meanwhile you're attacking a strawman
I'm not attacking anything.
I'm not familiar with WoW's dungeons and not partaking in that side of the conversation.
You brought up not using GCDs like it was a bad thing.
I'm trying to raise that that's how 14s clerics are designed to work. If you're not using GCDs it's not the contents fault because that's how the classes are designed to play. Wether or not that's good design is a different discussion.
you don't see single player games dedicated to the concept of clearing difficult fights/ bosses? may I introduce you to a little indie developer by the name of FromSoft?
not to mention all the games with punishing difficulty modes.
Well that's the thing isn't it...multiple difficulty modes cater to multiple audiences. Meanwhile some raiders seem to think that the only content that deserves attention is very challenging content. That's a niche in a niche.
WoW has left a LOT of bad blood behind it because of how the game has evolved over the years, the majority of which have pushed it in one particular direction -- towards the hardcore, ultra-competitive and endlessly repetitive endgame.
But being the breakout hit of the MMORPG genre, it attracted all kinds of players; many of which were simply looking for another "RPG", likely viewing the whole MMO aspect as a novelty. Due to the aforementioned changes, a lot of the former audience has either drifted away or turned sour towards the game; it wouldn't be inaccurate to say many of them have a chip on their shoulder over it. Conversely, those who liked those changes over the years because the game increasingly became their sort of thing... they're practically sycophantic towards it. Getting the two parties to have a reasonable discussion is easier said than done.
The shortest version is that if you consider yourself a competitive and goal-oriented player who enjoys the endgame to the point you'd prefer the rest of it didn't exist? Go with WoW.
If you aren't competitive and want to focus on the more traditional RPG aspects like storytelling, exploration, visual customization... or pretty much anything else that isn't strictly endgame? Go with FFXIV.
