Well, if the number of people on these forums saying they'd unsub, only to not do so says anything....
Also, plans change. Sometimes for the worse, sometimes for the better. You people holding them to every comment and plan is why we get less and less info.
A facebook ad for the free trial probably does more for sub numbers than ultimate.
You're only going to see the players subbed on these forums. There's a major selection bias in thinking you know anything by what is going on here.
The next time Square fails to follow through, you bet you're going to be reminded of Ultimate's delays and cancellation. It'll compound over time if they don't shape up for Endwalker.
Again, they've been saying that since 2.0 launched. I've heard the same stuff, for years. You're only going to see the players subbed on these forums. There's a major selection bias in thinking you know anything by what is going on here.

Its old and tired at this point.
Not really. This is the first time I've seen Yoshida need to apologize directly in a live letter for their failure to follow through. Keep in mind I'm just as "old and tired."
Furthermore, our personal feelings don't matter in regards to ultimate compared to the fact Square said they'd do something, strung players along for a year, and then went loljk. That costs trust, rightfully so.
Even if you hate ultimate, you shouldn't condone the strung players along for a year part.
It's far from the only issue they're arguably stringing players along with, either. It's frustrating that so many people buy into corporate PR and blatant 'feel good' stunts.
I've been playing for years. I like the game. I see great things in its future - if they start balancing resources in a more efficient manner.
We get less customisation options - especially for male characters - because they decided to focus on 'unisex' hairstyles. Which, let's be honest...more often than not translate into feminine and androgynous rather than masculine aesthetics.
There's the situation with the missing genders. People don't know if we're getting them with Shadowbringers and if we don't get a confirmation in May then yet again it's a case of people being strung along.
It's the case with stubble for Midlander men. A commonly requested feature that Yoshi-P claimed is 'too hard' to implement. (Not that it stopped him tweaking female models to have an enhanced butt when equipping the 2B outfit. How strange that it's not a limitation there, eh?)
But go into the announcement event with "high expectations", kthx. We'll be sure to deflate those afterwards, in interviews only a small proportion of the playerbase reads.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
The devs have also bluntly stated that they dont know if we're getting them either.
For those who have been following along and somehow missed this, there it is.
No one should feel strung along by this. They've made no promises.
I interviewed Yoship and he said the Island Sanctuary will be replacing all Ultimates this expansion and then he showed me pictures of ultimate raiders while laughing hysterically.
It's been discussed at length within the respective threads for the missing genders already, though they sold 2.0 as an apology and improvement over 1.0 and the many flaws it had. One of which was the removal of single gender playable races. Personally I'm inclined to take statements from businessmen, especially in the current climate, with a hefty pinch of salt.
