Somewhat disappointed in this one. Though it appears to be somewhat of a departure from other healers, at least in terms of aesthetic and whatnot... it's still not quite enough for me. It's tech-y, but not quite there yet... Still heavily relying on magic and I wanted something a bit more out there. It's one of the reasons I was looking forward to dancer being a healer. It'd be breaking the "mage healer" mold.

That said, I'm still looking forward to playing with it and seeing what it can do.

Those were pretty much a reference to Nu Gundam's fin funnels from 1988's Mobile Suit Gundam Char's Counterattack. Yoshi-P pretty much admitted that Gundam is where the idea originated.

Putting the current discussion aside, I really like the aesthetics of Sage. So far from the trailer we have:-

• A Cure equivalent (pretty much a given),
• A Glare/Broil equivalent (cast seemed a little too long to be Malefic),
• An instant-cast Shield similar to Aspected Benefic (most likely since Noct is getting removed), and
• An instant-cast damage AoE with Gravity range (could be an oGCD, or possibly an AoW equivalent since it’s instant).

Not much to go off of from what little we’re shown, but we do at least know that Sage can “augment” their own spells, so we’ll see where they’ll go with that once we get more info. Am pretty excited about it though! :O

I’m fairly certain it’s been said before that “pure healer” is just the terminology they use for “regen healer”. Not “pure healer” in the sense of “no damage-healing only” healer.

I view it more as Barrier = Proactive and Pure = Reactive when it comes to healing. Proactive sets things up before damage (barriers, buffs, heal-bombs), Reactive heals the damage afterwards (burst heals and regens).

Will definitely try Sage when it comes. I think it looks interesting from what has been shown so far. Hopefully they use many kinds of barriers and not just protective (damage shielding) and healing ones; barriers that boost, impede, damage, or seal (and other possibilities that I forget) could be interesting as well.

As much as I try, I can't see this orbital laser-nuke-mage puppeteer that somehow happens to be able to cast healing spells as an actual healer. I admit I am intrigued by its aesthetics but it feels like a Dps Caster with heals slapped onto it. Maybe the lore behind the class will justify why this job that seems focused on shooting lasers is meant to heal and soothe wounds.

Yoshida specifically mentioned DF/RF will prioritize pairing "pure healers" with "shield healers". So it sounds like they are looking to make a stronger distinction between the two.

We already have 3 pretty sparkle dancers. At least Sage has a slightly futuristic touch although it stills falls way too far into the clichéd "pure, sparkly, graceful mage healer type that dances in pure white across the battle field and makes everyone healthy and happy" category we already for my taste.
Healers don't have to look they do nothing but give you pats on the head and a kiss on your bubu all day long.
I like that Sage looks slightly more aggressive than the other 3 but it's still pretty clichéd for me. It was one of the reasons I was rooting for Chemist because it's fairly easy to give it a more aggressive, science-y aesthetic that isn't the typical caster in a white dress that throws light and sparkles everywhere.
