Hmm... multi-character emotes would only work well if the character on the receiving end of the emote had an option to accept or deny the emote.
Example:
1.Quina Quon targets Vivi Orunitia and enters "/hug"
emote pops up: Quina Quon attempts to give Vivi Orunitia a hug! (animation of Quina walking up to Vivi with open arms)
Then:
2a. Vivi Orunitia enters "/y"
emote pops up: Vivi Orunitia accepts Quina Quon's kind embrace. (animation of Quina and Vivi hugging)
Or:
2b. Vivi Orunitia enters "/n"
emote pops up: Vivi Orunitia coldly denies Quina Quon's hug! (animation of Vivi Orunitia folding arms and looking away coldly and Quina Quon lowering his/her head and arms sadly)
Or:
2c. Vivi Orunitia doesn't type anything after 15 seconds
emote pops up: Vivi Orunitia doesn't react to Quina Quon's open arms. (no animation for Vivi and Quina Quon lowers his/her arms and scratches his/her head in confusion.)
Now that I think of it, why is it that such a social game as the MMO, which has been around for over a decade now, almost never have two-way interactive emotes like that? It'd be awesome!
