    About the only thing WoW's has now that ours lacks is the ability to demo armours and animations, oddly enough which we can do sort of with the benchmark's but as for actual appearance options WoW has just moved theirs from "Worse than 14's" to "About the same as 14's" Great for them, hardly the "14 needs to keep up" Some are making it out to be.
    Maybe I'll have to download wow and check again, but a couple years ago I worked out in excel the possible visual combinations of a single race/gender.

    Wow Male human was 183,600. FFXIV Male Midlander is 43,834,139,568,563,300,000,000,000,000,000. (all those zeros may be a loss of precision in the spreadsheet) Granted FFXIV has a lot of subtle differences that you would never see, such as two or more adjacent skintones, or height differences, etc., but that subtlety is what makes it better imo.

    I have my expectations, but they are pretty well tempered. An expansion announcement and trailer is probably a given, seeing as Fanfest isn't happening this time around. Other than that it's hard to say. I think it'll be a pretty big information dump (new jobs, features, etc) but it very well might not be.

    To clarify, I am in no way saying I do not want nor should 14 update it's core features, I recall in a past interview Yoshi saying he wanted 14 to "go the distance" and that a time would come when 14 would need it's core systems upgraded and it's engin looked at and that would be when things like the creator and graphics would get looked at.
    I just don't agree with the notion that it's "do or die" now, Shadowbringers is enjoying critical acclaim and pretty much when anyone talks about MMO's it's WoW and 14 being the first mentioned.
    I've been saying to my friends that 14 needs a Cataclysm expansion (In the sense of one heavy on improvements not an actual calamity) but I predicted it would come no sooner than 7.0 with it being the beginning of "Season 2" it made sense, "New story, new game" ect, though I'd welcome it sooner.

    I would say that after Shadowlands' customization additions, their character customization (not for every race tho) is almost at the same level as XIV, that would only get the upper hand due to the truckload amount of hairstyles and much broader color palletes to choose.

    In the end, I really think XIV's models are aging much better than WoW models did, but here we lack (apart from the 2 examples line above) meaningful customization options. All characters look the same, because we have just a tiny amount of face options and the details (nose, mouths, eyebrows...) barely make any difference.

    They could give in 6.0, not a character model revamp, don't think that's needed yet, but more character options to play with. Detach Au Ra horns from the faces, add more faces, new tail models, make face details more consistent, and above all, since we are no longer tied to the old playstation system, they got to give us better textures... There's no reason to keep the blurry ones we have.

    To be fair, a lot of FFXIV's customisation options are also not used very often. Some of the base faces are very unconventionally attractive/uncanny valley and typically avoided as a result. Some race/gender combinations suffer from that problem more than others.

    you won't see much in terms of body sliders because they can't refit the gear for all those things.
