For once, I'd have to admit MPK has successfully trolled. 17 pages of bites. Guess glamour debate really touches a nerve for most people.
After awhile discussions tend to go off on their own and it isn't about who trolled who anymore. I'd say they failed their initial mission.
They keep adding it because people keep buying it then heaping praise on them for releasing one of the best expansions in MMO history. Square Enix is pretty arrogant right now for a good reason and is obviously cashing in on FF14. The amount of Mog Station stuff has been put on steroids.
If this expansion sucked you would not be seeing this really but game is popular so whatever.
Square Enix does stuff that makes NCSoft and Bethesda look like AMATEURS when it comes to monetizing players. Activision would KILL for this playerbase that allows it without batting an eyelash.
I give SE a lot of crap some days but I wouldn't go so far as to say they're worse than Bethesda. That'd be a low blow, even for me. I think they're more like Digital Extremes, who runs Warframe. Large focus on cosmetics (especially in the cash shop) and pretty regular content focused on "the grind". And, like SE, their content implementation can be hit or miss while the story is decent enough. SE still has an advantage on most of these fronts, but there are some striking similarities and some eerily similar design decisions which result in failure. They keep adding it because people keep buying it then heaping praise on them for releasing one of the best expansions in MMO history. Yeah, this is a problem for Au Ra as well, the tattoo looks really bad on top of the scales.
It would be cool if the tattoo was like... a separate item that used the wristband slot as a glamour. This way you'd be able to opt out of it in these cases.
If I had to guess why FF14 has not easily surpassed WoW in the US it would be because of the heavy monetization. Just looking at other MMO's where US players draw the line and then watching Square Enix do the electric slide over it is pretty obvious the issue.I give SE a lot of crap some days but I wouldn't go so far as to say they're worse than Bethesda. When you see more being added to the Mog Station then patches we have a serious issue. Also the companion APP have a free and premium option is pretty ridiculous for a game with a sub.
Square Enix seems to still think this is a free to play MMO and are treating it as such.
No, it's not monetization at all. It's the theme, a lot of players can't get over the aesthetic. It took me a couple years or so before I even got into this game in HW. I would have been playing this game well before then otherwise. Other factors include the MSQ, etc., definitely NOT the cash shop though. FFXIV has one of the least in your face cash shops I've seen in a game.If I had to guess why FF14 has not easily surpassed WoW in the US it would be because of the heavy monetization. It is probably contributed by not-so-great marketing, I reside in US only know FFXIV exists until patch 4.3 from a player recommending it, never heard of this game before that.If I had to guess why FF14 has not easily surpassed WoW in the US it would be because of the heavy monetization. Also a lot of stuffs added in the mogstation are old event items you could earn in older events, if they are so desperate on milking real money from player, they would not have forgotten the Korean exclusive outfits from 2018(2017), and Mogstation would be filled to the brim with experience boost, super materia, loot boxes, elite mounts with speed boost, premium member sub that give you better drop rates...etc, etc.
Trust me, SE is treating XIV way better than a free MMO.
Sans Undertale's clothes break my immersion!
