    You clearly didn’t play FF11. There’s more to that game than a single mechanic of losing xp when you die. Capturing the essence of 11 is not what eureka did and is not what bojza is succeeding to do. They couldn’t be further from it.     Yep. I played FF11 back in the day, and EverQuest before that which was very similar. Eureka did not capture the spirit of those games at all. If for no other reason than those games did not have long rotations like this game does, which makes that kind of experience extremely tedious when translated over into this game.

    But Arillyn isn't wrong, recapturing the spirit of old-school MMORPGs was the intent of Eureka. I just thought they did a bad job of it, speaking as someone who was there for it and has nostalgia for those games.

    I actually did play FFXI from NA launch until shortly after Abyssea. I agree, there is absolutely more to FFXI than losing xp when you die and I didn't say that Eureka was the best implementation of that game into this. But people did ask for elements of FFXI brought in to this game and SE brought some of that into Eureka. Was it executed the best way? No, it wasn't. But a lot of what people ask for in FFXI wouldn't translate to FFXIV as they are different games. As an aside, people also have rose-colored glasses for old FFXI. There were some wonderful things about that game and I loved it. But I don't think I would go back to it.

    Maybe if the duels weren't hard-gated by insane RNG luck then people wouldn't have gotten so burnt out on the content and more people would be doing it.. I know for me at least I haven't set foot in bozja since the moment I decided the duels weren't worth dealing with the RNG BS over.

    What's so awesome about duels that people get all bent up over them? I've figured that they're just another type of critical engagement.

    Special titles, achievements, and 99 lockboxes (The equivalent of 50 other Critical engagement's worth). They're also pretty decently challenging, not utterly faceroll solo fights, something the game is incredibly lacking in, so some people enjoy doing them for fun. Which when you combine equal parts of RNG with equal parts frustration at watching people get in that clearly haven't watched a video or even the slightest idea of what they're supposed to do (don't have mandatory lost actions, no essence, etc) leads to many people getting heated about them when the ticket to even try is at a premium.

    Okay. Sounds like something that would be fun if I could do it at will. But with all the RNG involved I don't think I'll bother. I'm already somewhat miffed that I can't practice the regular critical engagements. I've done the chocobo one three times and I still don't have a solid strategy for the, um, meteor stream I think. I have some ideas but no good way to test them.

    I'm something like 80% though rank 9. I just can't do the zone in general without falling asleep after 15mins of being in there. It's easier to stay awake doing HW fates. I've finished 6 weapons already I think...

    I just have zero drive. Eureka was fun but by the end of SB I couldn't take it anymore. This is the same thing really. Same crud, different expansion.
