Supply and demand is key. I've seen the market boards on Primal and Crystal, and both are their own kinds of different for what you're looking for. Housing is more popular on Crystal, therefore the same table that's 5k on Primal is 30k on Crystal. Raiding is less popular on Crystal therefore foods and potions are worthless for profit in comparison to how much they'll cost on Primal.

People are the real trash for not understanding cost of production, and payment for time spent.

The economy is rubbish for 2 reasons, Crafting is ridiculously accessible and botting is rampant. Supply and demand takes care of the rest.

A major part of the problem is that SE allows market hawks to watch for any change and maintain the lowest price. Bots can be very helpful due to the predictable wave nature of bans. A simple change in market tax could basically eliminate this entirely.

Market tax has very little affect on bots. For example the crafted gear bots can afford to sell at very small profit margins and discourage most legitimate players from even trying, since they can churn out a constant supply of thousands of items. The tax would only serve to discourage regular players further, you don't want to get into an undercut war with a bot who's happy selling for peanuts and pay tax every time.

There is actually no issue with undercutting itself. It's just how markets work. If there is good supply of an item, people will undercut you no matter how you try to rework the system. If there's a good demand, your item will sell in the end at a fair price if you're patient. If there's low demand it won't sell.

If there's an "issue" with prices it's only because supply is sky high due to accessibility and bots, and demand is at an all time low because more people have crafters and are self-sufficient. As I've said many times before, you can't have super easy crafting for everyone and have everyone make lots of gil from it. If there's one pie, you can't give 100000 people a big slice of it.

Easy crafting or lots of gil. Pick one.

It's several factors. Leveling gathering and crafting classes is super easy and fast now so lots of people jumped on that. They made crafting overall way easier. Bots have become more and more of a thing. Markets shift too but often times people will stick with just one or two markets. People also like to make 10 or more of something that doesn't sell quickly and dump it all on the market at one time - supply and demand. And even if something does move fairly quickly, if someone undercuts then usually everyone starts to which is silly because yours will sell, it just may not be in that hour. If it's something that moves quickly I won't even match the lowest listed price. I'll price it at the average selling price and just be patient - 99% of the time it sells at my original price that same day or the next.

Also as Frizze said - I too am on the Primal data center and have noticed the same thing about your server. It's almost always way overpriced in regards to other servers. I rarely server hop there looking for a deal because it's even rarer there is one.

The market board has one single and very distinct flaw. And that is you can see what other people are selling items for. It’s shouldn’t be shown and only the history of sales shown so you know what prices an item has been selling for

How is this a flaw when every mmo I know of, and real life, do this?

i must say, i never had problems to make some nice gils from MB, maybe just dont focus on making money, you know, but if you cant resist, then check some mats youre using often and see how much its on MB or just farm minions, mounts etc. theyre still worthy

i think it could be better but hell, undercutting is life if you have full inventory, no desire to just sell for basic price youre putting it on MB and when you know you have full inventory you just want those sell faster so here we go, if you will check history you will see where you shouldnt go and just sell or throw away

i really would like to see how it should look by your thread leader o.o

you know , you can farm gils by doing dutty roulette as class in need o/ or just do maps to get new mats when there are

Because it’s the one thing that creates the undercutting and destroys the market. Remove the ability to see how much people are selling items and only allow people to see the history and people have to guess prices. Will keep prices the same, improving the MB.

It's still possible to make a decent amount of gil. Especially if you play often and restrain your spending until after prices for new and shiny items start going down.
