    @Advss:

    Basically for FFXI, roles never had set "slots" they were required to play as. Rather they had a certain kit that was better suited towards some role, but with gear could be played differently.

    As in, a WHM with haste and dual-wielding could theoretically be a very survivable but slow 1-man army.

    So, when jobs were initially released, they were designed with a sort of role in mind (Nin was intended to be a DPS-ish job for example). The players of course find loopholes and synergies the devs didn't think of, such as blink-tanking with Ninja. Interestingly, the devs embraced a lot of this and had future expansions refine the jobs in the direction the community wanted to play them (so DRK became more of a DPS, NIN got more tank-related stuff)

    It was a fun time to be alive because they didn't really feel a need to overly balance jobs as you could (and should) just change/level jobs that do what you want to do.

    Yeah i figured the flexibility of the dual job system in xi contributed, and its pretty plain to see they decided to curb stomp that one in xiv, thanks for the clarification on it since im not too knowledgable on that game in particular, some aspects of jobs i look at looked cool though like DRK dread spikes, and stat draining(would have liked to see more magic using in xiv's DRK as well) Still think Mystic Knight is highly likely at some point in xiv regardless of whether its a tank or dps

    we miss a few jobs we miss Crystal Exarch and Familar summoner. both job were in the new dungeon at tail in. through problem one was fey only jobs

    Crystal Exarch is just a Paladin, White Mage or Black Mage depending on which Trust slot you use him to fill. People were talking about Alisaie pages ago.

    Ehhhhh.

    There where a few caveats to that mindset though. While there where Highs and interesting things you could do, the lows on the other hand where reeeeaaaaallly low. Whereas here in XIV at most you'll be less than optimal while playing a non-meta job. There where classes in XI that where literally unplayable for years at a time. As in an empty party slot would be better than taking them.

    It's swings and roundabouts really.

    only thing i Think the Thief boss is hinting at is Ninja being next expansion poster boy.

    As a DRK main as soon as HW dropped, I weep for them if thats the case... its like a curse being the poster job of an expansion: WAR 2,0 start was rough as hell, at least trying to heal them, DRG had to be buffed like crazy in 3.x cause of magic defense issues, MNK ever since SB, and more recently DRK, which...yeah. RIP Ninjas. I'll throw out some ten jin chi's when 6.0 rolls around

    +1 for adding Berserker. I hope they do, but make it a little different than what was shown in the dungeon. Maybe make it a two dual wielding axe class or even hammers.
