I had some good fun in WoD yesterday. Everything went fine except for Cerberus of course.
I'm in as a GNB in Alliance A, so I tanked adds. During the fight, a second puddle emerges which means, not enough people in the belly. We noticed that their healer did not follow them and they all died in there. Surely enough, C tank died so I had to take over. At that point he had already 8 stacks of Haste and I only managed to survive a few seconds as he quickly had 14 stacks and melted everyone.
After the wipe someone in my Alliance said:
"A = Adds."
Me: "Yeah, had to take over Cerb tho."
Alliance Chat goes over the Job of every Alliance, as people didn't seem to know.
"A=Adds B=Belly C=Chains"
C-Tank: "Which means I don't start the battle."
As i wondered who does then someone pulled and we did the fight almost flawless this time.

So I wondered. Normally B is the main tank but A tanks the adds, B get's gobbled up and that would leave C Tank to main tank as he has nothing better to do right?

All the really matters, is that enough people(don't even need a tank since the Unknown enemies can be ignored if you have enough DPS) go in the belly, and someone grabs the Wolfbane. Otherwise, doesn't really matter who tanks Cerberus directly. They can, if they actually have a healer, even tank the adds at the same time.

For reference, I am the whm for this run.

That moment when you run Wanderers hard mode and have three people in your party sans you that dread the dungeon. No one was new either.

That moment when, in the same dungeon, you get a pair of dps, a mnk and nin, who do not understand their job.

That moment when, in the same dungeon, your nin only uses Death Blossom and Katon a grand total of 4 times for the entire run.

That moment when, in the same dungeon, your mnk does not use a single aoe.

That moment when, in the same goddamn dungeon, your mnk does not use Twin Snakes buff the entire goddamn dungeon, nor Dragon Kick.

That moment when, in the same goddamn dungeon, both of your dps have a handful of 80s each.

That moment when, in the same goddamn dungeon, both of the dps eat ALL OF THE FLAGS ON THE SECOND BOSS AFTER BEING TOLD TO JUST EAT THE DAMAGE UP ONE, THEN HAVE ONE OF THE DPS CLAIM THAT IT IS A LIGHTER SHADE OF XYZ FLAG.

Minor gripe, but people still seem to insist on standing in front with the tank. I adjust, but I can only move so many times before I'd risk hitting the rest of the group with cleaves, so... if you're in front with me when Titan does his table flip, that's on you. >_>

Oh yeah, that happens to me too. A lot.

Had a dragoon in the Striking Tree (Hard) the other day who insisted on stacking on top of me no matter how i turned the boss, and then get one-shotted by the untelegraphed tank buster lightning bolt, get revived, stand on top of me again, gets one-shot by the big bolt again, then asks in chat why the tank keeps letting him die.

Just...what the heck man?


And then there's Ravana, when he does Surpanakha, i try to bait it away from the group, but the rest of the group stands in a circle formation around the boss in such a way that no matter where i go, someone is going to get cleaved. Thanks for making my job impossible to perform guys, real swell of you blocking off every possible direction i could turn him in.


Or Tsukuyomi, why yes, stack with the tank when she does her conal tank buster and then wonder why you died. Ugh.

Ravana is another one, yeah. MT or OT, at least one person will stand in in front and die, even when I mention what will happen beforehand. It's even better when multiple people are in front during the OT phase, and two are healers... and they aren't sprouts/returners. Oof, that cleave... Can't help but chuckle about it though.

I've had a run or 2 in the past where I've had a serious lapse in judgement as the MT or OT...and that has occurred during the OP cleave in phase 3. "Bad stuff is bad" are words to live by, so when I started taking serious damage I tried to outrun it...only to kill half of the group in the process before it dawned on me. I felt so ashamed. lol Guess what I'm trying to say is sometimes it's the tank's fault.

Fair. I've mentioned to Sprout tanks when they have OT to aim away from the group, and most of them do, but occasionally they'll tunnel. They usually correct themselves though. I can safely say I haven't done that on Ravana, just, you know... tunneled elsewhere at times. >_>

I don't adjust. They have to learn somehow and turning the boss when you shouldn't have to is annoying for melees.

Yeah. If I know I'm where I'm supposed to be, and a dps or healer decides they want to stand with me and take a cleave...well, like you said, they need to learn somehow. Nothing gets them moving faster than a sudden drop to their HP. Sometimes there needs to be an adjustment though, like in Memoria Misera where the boss doesn't always cooperate. Everyone's gotta adjust at some point during that fight. I'm sure there are other encounters that require similar adaptation.

Mentor Roulette as WHM.

Load into Castrum Abania and get a black mage, a summoner, and a paladin. Greet (only the tank replies). Notice the dps have same nicknames.

Very VERY slowly make our way to the first boss. I notice the Summoner rarely has a pet out and almost never has dots up. Okay, whatever. It be like that sometime. First boss, I'm noticing the tank taking a LOT of damage and then.. 1-shot. What? Okay now I have aggro. Swift/raise tank just in time to die. Summoner and black mage running around like headless chickens while the boss dashes about the arena. "Smn, please raise me" I ask as the tank dies again. I can see the summoner target me, they're running around on top of me. Twenty seconds later, hard cast resurrection. Manage to keep them alive, top myself up, get the tank up, and... tank gets 1 shot again (from full health). Okay, this time I look at his gear. All level 70 gear. Augmented Shire. I mean, it's not TERRIBLE. He even has melds! But, it's clearly not enough.

Manage to kill that boss and get to the next trash pack; the timed capsule thingies. Normally? The groups I've been in can kill 2 of them before deployment. Not this time. All 4 open up.

We slowly make our way to the second boss. BLM disconnects soon as the tank face pulls. Summoner has no pet out. No dots. Tank moves into tower. I move into tower. Summoner does not. Boss does element stuff, I grab the correct one, tank does not, summoner doesn't move yet keeps trying to hit the boss. We end up wiping after second towers.

I explain mechanics, tank understands, asks questions when they don't. Summoner says nothing. Black mage returns. I give a quick run down for them. No reply. We go in again, tank does their best and I type the elements quickly. Neither DPS does what they need to do. I beg, I plead. Nothing. No attempt. They were moving around but just not correctly so I don't know if they were just not paying attention to chat or what. We manage to clear that and the black mage pops sprint and peels off and pulls half of the bridge then brings them back to us. I thought they'd de-aggro if anyone who touched them died, but they turned on me and killed me. So we attempt again, black mage behaves this time.

Slowly we make our way to the last boss and I know this is going to be brutal but before I could explain, tank face pulls again. We make it, with me spamming heals A LOT, until the adds come out. I manage to kill the one tethered to me but the dps don't take notice of them and the tethered summoner dies. At this point, the tank is losing 50% health each swipe on top of a bleed so I'm focusing them. The add that feeds the medicine doesn't get killed and the next aoe kills the black mage. I manage to keep the tank alive and we kill the boss ourselves. I really had little time to raise a summoner who didn't have a pet out or put dots up 90% of the time while the tank is bleeding to death.

Tank: "The healer deserves a nobel prize in patience. Thank you so much!"
They got my commendation. They were friendly, they asked questions, they learned and they listened.
